ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
Alcohol/Drug abuse

Alcohol/Drug abuse

My wife and I are greatly concerned about the natural father of our 11 year old daughter.  The father in question has been abusing Tylenol and Alcohol for a very long time.  Last year he overdosed on Tylenol and prescription drugs prescribed by his Psychologist as he has been recently diagnosed Psychitzophrenic and by-polar.  He committed this act in front of our daughter.  The last time we saw him in court he was almost skin and bones, very pale in complextion and exhibited an almost paranoia.  Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening.  I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage.  For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him.  We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.

I have no personal experience, but have you told your lawyer about the situation?

I would also be concerned if it was my child. Sometimes the courts are busy and people fall thru the cracks. If it were my daughter, perhaps she would come down with the flu and not be able to see her natural father this weekend. Just a suggestion of what I may do if faced with your problem.

I have liver problems that required a year of chemo and treatment....so i have studied the affects and progresssion of liver disease a lot. I would hope that dad is tracking liver enzymes at least....at some stages you can get a toxic build up of ammonia that make you think in a confused manner - not a for sure but a possibility - at least communicate with him about his condition and what he is doing about it - his liver I mean...not his abuse - one thing at a time. Good luck....the liver is a very resilient organ that can come back from a lot if it is allowed to....
