Alcohol and the Asian Flush (more like entire body for me)

by kkmats, Feb 09, 2007 12:00AM
Hello. I am a nineteen year old japanese american college student. I know about the whole "allergic" to alcohol thing with Asians, and how we flush. Believe me. I do. My father and his twin are both "allergic" and so are the rest of my family, to different extents. Both my father and uncle do not drink anymore because of it.

My question is while I know some Asians only get the flushing in their face, my flush starts in my face, proceeds down my neck, arms, chest, stomach, and legs. First it starts splochy all over, most of the times covering my scars on my body, then covers completely red. I also have an increased heart beat, sometimes to the point where it beats so fast I cannot keep up with it. I believe it depends it I continue drinking or not, but sometimes my tolerance is higher some nights, while other nights I can have one beer/liquor drink and be all red.

Is this abnormal for even being from Asian decent, where this reaction occurs frequently?
And I realize minimizing drinking, even quitting all together is the only way to stop it, but is there  any major risks I need to look out for?
