Alcohol during w/d?

I'm on day 5 w/o Nubain, feeling much better, a little anxious still. A friend of mine suggested a glass of red wine would help ease anxiety and would help me sleep better, I've been thru hell these days and I really don't wanna mess up! If I have this one glass (and I promise it will be just one) will my cravings get worse? Is it a good idea? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks again for your support...

@Ann,, outside the U.S. it's easy to get, as long as you pay cash you don't need Rx.

If you have abused alcohol in the past you should not have any now as there could be cross addiction issues.

If you don't mind my asking how do you get the Nubian so easily?  Glad you are done with it.  That is good news.

@ Scary, I agree, it just made sense a couple hours ago, but these days have been so horrendous, I don't want to use EVER AGAIN!!! I'ts like in the movies when you have one little angel on your shoulder and a little devil on the other telling you what to do, that's exactly how I'm feeling today. I'ts been a long, bumpy road, 6 years injecting myself this poison, non stop and 5 days ago I said ENOUGH!!! I lost my 8 year marriage, my job and most important my sanity to this s***. I have easy access to the Nubain so I can get it whenever I want, but I choose to say NO! NOT ANYMORE, NEEDLES DON'T CONTROL MY LIFE ANYMORE, I DO! God is good....

My kid is on day 6 of recovery and if she asked me what I thought I would say "no" one glass is too many.   It's like this...since alcohol is not the drug of choice it's gonna give you a buzz that is only going to **** you off...it's not going to be "good enough" and then that would open the door for the opiate or what ever.

Is this accurate?  Or does it just make sense to me?

Thanks guys, I've had problems w alcohol before (blackouts), I just thought one glass of wine wouldn't b that bad now that I've been clean for 5 days. I've been sleeping a little better, RLS is over, so are the bathroom issues, is this feeling of emptiness that is so uncomfortable, so anxious. I've heard that w/d from injectable opioids is stronger than from oral. I don't know, is the first time I've been thru this and it's been c/t. Thank you all for your advice and support....

I agree in that it's a bad idea. I am in NA and a woman last night who is an addict, stops drugs and started drinking and became a full blown alcoholic. I am not saying you will but addicts cannot use any mind alterating substances.
You can do this clean and sober.

Hi again,

Ok for some reason I thought alcohol was your DOC so my response is going to change a little :)  I do agree (and have experienced myself) that addicts have a huge potential for cross addiction, so i would be careful if you do have just one glass.  Personally it never worked for me to ease withdrawals, but everybody is different.  Just remember to keep your guard up if you do.

I may get blasted for this but I do not think it will make your cravings worse.  It may make you less "on guard" and you may not be as in control of yourself as your would 100% alcohol free.  Does one glass of wine have a huge effect on you?  My other concern would be if you have one glass of wine tonight what about tomorrow and the next night?  Will this go on for two weeks a month?  I would hate to see you get cross addicted to alcohol.  You know what your willpower is.  I know that I have had a glass of wine or two lately and it did not effect my sobriety.  Please don't blast me for this I am just being honest.  I am not suggesting that everyone do this.  It has worked for me.  It doesn't mean it will work for anyone else.  I don't like alcohol enough to get addicted to it.

Hello,

In my opinion, no, it's not ok.  One is never ok for us addicts, for we know deep down that it will NEVER end at JUST ONE :)

A long time member here always says "One is too many and a thousand is not enough".  Something along those lines, but I never forget it and really agree with that statement.

If we could control it, we wouldn't be addicts, we'd stop at just one.  So I say no, don't do it :)
