Alcoholism treatment

Besides AA and rehab, what do physicians offer as treatment for alcoholics? I know there's a drug called Anabuse (or Antibuse) but that's been around for some time. Is there anything new?

welcome...

i think that it is the latest "fix-all" on the market.  but i must say that i don't agree with it.   yes...it may curb your cravings...but do you take it for the rest of your life?  it does nothing to "fix" the underlying issues surrounding the addiction.  only you can do that.  i think that any addiction...no matter what it is...requires a combination of therapies to be successful.   recovery is a lifetime committment and just becoming sober will not be enough to see you through this.  A/A is an excellent program and i would advise you to start attending meetings if you do not already.
