ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
Alittle worroed

Alittle worroed

Hi all so I was technically in day 8 of no pain meds (my choice is Norco) last night and I have been dealing with some really upsetting news. One of the children I care for stole my wedding ring. He is blaming another child who in turn is blaming him. Long story short, I had to involve the police and the paretns cant seem to find the truth here. Last night I was so upset (and my sleep has really sucked) that I cut a half of a valium up and just took it to help me sleep. Well it worked pretty good, so this morning being a little on edge I took the other half. (Minor amount right) how do I learn to not reach for the drugs if I am overwhelmed. I can't go to NA and I have no where else to turn for support. Should I be overly concerned?

Yes...that's a concern. We are so used to reaching for a pill over the least little thing! The brain needs to get re trained so it can deal with and process life's irritations. How do you do that??  Well...it's aftercare, plain and simple. Whatever form it takes, aftercare is important for the recovery process in that we learn better coping mechanisms!  I just told someone else, who doesn't like the thought of aftercare, that she should get some books and read about the disease/addiction,etc...

Do you have the ring back?  Did you ask the other children if they saw anything?
