Are you writing a paper or having surgery? Your anesthesiologist should be able to answer these questions...I'm an O.R. nusre and can tell you...yes...you want them if you are having major surgery.

No...anesthetics in surgery are not addictive. But if you are an addict (active or recovering) and need surgery...you need to be up front about it w/ the anesthesiologist because the amt of a drug they may give you is based on weight..you may need much more because of the tolerance built up by your body.
