Anxiety Attack???

Anxiety Attack???

What started as a good day is turning ugly, I'm starting to feel light in the knees and arms, butterflies in the stomach, just feeling heavy overall.  Am i having  panic attack, if so, is this normal for day 9, how do i get through it?  I need to calm myself down but dont know how. Advice please, never felt this before and Ive detoxed 3 other times but never lasted this long.

BREATHE.....THEN BREATHE AGAIN...slow and steady. Sit down and calm yourself. Don't feed into it. It will pass.

Many members have anxiety and/or depression after they quit drugs. I won't say it's "normal" but it is common. Don't forget that we spend years abusing our bodies and minds and when we get clean we have to give it time for our brain chemistry to level out. That is the down and dirty layman's description btw.

Be patient while other members come on and suggest what natural supplements they have found that have helped them.

In the meantime, talk....when was the last time you got a good check-up?

Please stay calm and keep talking hun. Don't let your mind talk you into anything right now. Stay here and stay with us.

Hello Rock , Yes  it does sound like a bit of panic going on . When I got clean it was right about then when it started . But rest assure it will go away and wont harm you as uncomfortable as it might be ! Your brain is healing and it takes time . Read some of my old post as I must have asked a hundred questions on that very subject . I was scared and thought I might be losing my mind but it did go away with time and it will for you too my friend ... Take care . Jimmy

Kev, i honestly think your having an anxiety attack, i used to get a sort of fluttery stomache, and i felt like lead, just try and take some deep breaths, have a cup of camomile tea, i know its hard but try to relax, its all part of withdrawals, you can get a dr.appointment to put your mind at rest, look after yourself, sudie

Yes, that is what I meant. I always suggest a good check-up complete with blood work, once we get clean. Like I said, we spend years abusing our bodies (minds and spirit) so it is always a good idea to get checked out by the doctor. Sometimes there are other things going on with us and tend to ignore it or the pain medication masks it. And, while you are there, talk with him/her about what is going on. Maybe he can recommend something for you that is non-addictive.

I hope you get to feeling better. Try and relax.

valerian root is a natural help for anxiety... While having an anxiety attack, the best thing is concentrating on breathing as you have been said. Very, very slowly....breath in and out and just concentrate on breathing....Anxiety can be quite scary but we can also have it under control. I didn't experience it until i detoxed, since then, it is a partner but with therapy and working on what i have been advised, i have it quite under control....
How are you feeling now ?

Thanks for the advice, that was something scary not feeling any control of your body like that, had to take my BP which was normal then i just layed still on the bed breathing like someone told me to do and I actually fell asleep.  Feeling much better now thanks all and keep the advice coming in case this happens again.

That was a very smart move to take your blood pressure! You ruled that out and I am sure it helped to relax you.

Laurel suggested Valerian Root. I have not personally taken it but I have heard members praise it. It may be worth a try and keep it in the house in the event this happens again.

Again, 9 days is awesome! Keep hanging in there, it will get better.

Yes that was a classic panic attack.  If you have a prescription for an anti-anxiety medication then you should take it.  You can do what I do & breathe deeply, slowly & tell yourself that it will pass.  It will, it just feels like you're dying.  If you need to call your doctor & alert him of the issue.
