Any advice and support about quitting methadone?

I like reading about each persons story beacuse they are all different but we all relate to some sort of addiction. So here is my story. I became addicted to pain killers when i met my husband who was already addicted. and that was 6+ years ago. I was taking whatever painkiller we could get. oxy, vicodin, lorcet, etc and was also smoking pot and cigarettes. I became pregnant almost 2 years ago and quit every thing that year. My husband started going to a methadone clinic because he wanted to try and get clean but needed help. I thought they were going to give him a set mg and then wean him off. but that never happened. they kept increasing his dose and he became dependent on methadone. then he started getting take homes.. I started taking methadone as well. So i have been taking methadone for about 20 months and different mgs each week. the last 5 months or so I have been taking no more then 25mg every other day. the last few weeks I have been trying to get myself ready to quit completly. today is it. im done im so tired of being addicted to these 3 things. methadone, pot and cigarettes. I want to quit everything and be completly chemical free. I need help! How can i quit if my husband comes home with it and is taking it in front of me? He doesnt want to stop going to the clinic but he does want to quit smoking cigarettes. My question for yall is how should i go about quitting methadone? right now i am taking 20mg every day. should i decrease my dose every week? or just one day quit taking it completly and go through detox? Today i did the most hardest thing ever. I told my mom that i am making a plan for my soberity and i told her my past. she had no idea i have been addicted and ive never been sober for more then a year since i was 18. I knew she was going to say some things i didnt want to hear. and she still doesnt quite understand why i have been doing this and why i cant just stop. But i feel so much better that i told her and wont be lying to her anymore. I also told my little sister who knew about me getting high but didnt know the extent and how bad i really am. So telling those two im hoping they can get me through these next couple months of withdrawls. Im so scared to go through this but i need to do it. So this monday is the day i am starting my soberity plan. I will be coming on here daily for help and support. Any advice for me is greatly appreciated. thank you.

Hi Dear welcome to this forum, rest assured and promise you that lots of support, advise, encouragement, the most important of all Love!!  All of this will be on it's way, be prepared to check in as and when, you will be so so so surprise how much this sincere people helps with just words from the bottom of them heart.

Well I have no knowledge about methadone, but I do understand this is a very strong drug with long half life, which mean, even you stop taking today the drug will still be in your body for up to 72hours??  I think so..

Well since that's the case, your withdrawal symptoms might most probably be the day after depends on individual,

But strongly believe that for this drug, slow tapering will be a wiser choice., I have seen above member snowflake previous post before, she might be off good help to you and also another member hopefully he does see this, Weaver71..
As I mention I am no expert in this but I will send a prayer for you and your husband in detox recovery,

Wishing you all the best, don't give up!  Keep trying!  Your day will be here soon!

Cherie
Lot of love

Thank you snowflake. Will defintely want to hear what vitamins i should take. I also heard that a high fiber diet will increase the detox and will also ease the withdrawl symptoms. Now are you completly off of methadone? or are you taking low doses to wing off? and how much were you taking before you quit? also i have heard that methadone withdrawl is worse then herion withdrawl and that the withdrawls can last up to a few weeks to a few months. is this true?
