Anyone know about Methadone addiction?

by Babydoll29, Mar 01, 2007 12:00AM
Hey there
I'm new here. I'm 22 and have been on painkillers for about 4-5years now. My choice is anything from lortab to oxys. Right now I'm on Methadone.(the doc gave them to me for back pain) I'm a Big Pill head and wish I wasn't! Then again who does? LOL I'm trying to cut down. I take 3 10mg a day. My husband and I are also trying to get pregnant for the past 2 years. Does anyone know anything about trying to get pregnant while takeing methadone? I'm thinking that may be the reason. I also would like some advice on trying to get off these damn things. I sure would appreciate any info. In return, I of course will do my best if anyone has any questions for me.

From all appearances Anna Nicole was still using up through the birth...what the short or long term affects on the baby I don't know are known or will be known for some time. I would do everything within my power to get clean and stay clean for at least 3 mos. before trying to become pregnant.

Good luck to you.

methadone should only be considered as a last resort especially if u wanna get pregnant and considering ur age. do u plan to use the mdone for period b4,thru and after pregnancy or are u considering indefinate  mdone maintanence.if u fall pregnant while on mdone the clinic docs insist u stay on and can even raise ur dose.if u get pregnant while waiting to get on the mdone(we have a short w8 where i live)u will b given priority and bumped up the list.if abstinence is not 4 u then mdone mite b good luck

I am prego 6 (weeks) and on pills so I have done quite a bit of reading in the last week. Methadone is the pill of choice in pregnant women wanting to get off of opiates BUT and I stress BUT they usually do NOT take you off methadone at all during your pregnancy and there are an unbeliveable amount of tests they do on you and your baby throughout pregnancy and after birth so if you can get off of them before you are in my shoes I would recommend it. I don't think you not being able to get pregnant has much to do with the methadone but you might have a better chance if you were not on them. Good luck and keep me posted!!!

To: to anyone on methadone
While methadone has been a savior to some, it is one of the absolute hardest drugs to come off of. On top of that, most of the detox facilities here in South Florida will detox you from any drug, BUT will absolutely REFUSE you if there is methadone in your system. Plus, it gets in your bones, unlike most pain killers, and can make your bones very fragile after prolonged use. The government loves to brag about how they offer methadone maintenence for heroin addicts, but have you ever been to a clinic? It is freaking disgusting, and the people there are just as bad. You see, they set this program up to keep heroin addicts off the street, but little did they know, they are setting these addicts up for a much harder, longer detox, and just exchanging one drug for another.

hello!
Congrads on the pregnancy!! :) Thank you for some insight! I do have a 5 year old, but no luck on a second.
Even though I've heard all the stories about Anne Nicole's son dieing from methadone and she may have as well,
It is so hard to stop takeing them. After being on here last night I woke up this mornning and only took one! So,
I'm staying here and maybe being here on this forum with  yall (that's you all in Okie talk) LOL- I'm from Oklahoma. I can cut down, I'd rather not be on these things while pregnant.Even if that means going  C/T.
Easier said then done right? Well, this is my first day cutting down, SO PLEASE.... WISH ME LUCK!!

Hi there,
I live in NJ and I am also on the Methadone program. I have been on it for about 2 1/2yrs. Although I was never pregnant while I have been on it but my sister was on Methadone during her whole pregnancy. My nephew came out a healthy 8lb. 7oz. baby. You say that you take 3 10mg. pills a day? Is there a clinic where you live that dispenses it in a liquid form? Because a few woman who go to my clinic are pregnant but they are monitored by the doctor and nurses and counselors. Maybe you need some kind of program like that to help you get over your addiction. I have not done a drop of heroin in 2 1/2 yrs. so it does help you if you want to help yourself. Listen I'm not trying to sound like an NA meeting or anything. I just wanted you to know that you can get pregnant while on Methadone and can successfully carry a baby full term with no complications. Some woman say that their babies don't have any withdrawl symptoms. On the other hand some babies do. So it all depends. But if you don't do anything but the Meth than you should be fine carry a baby. Well good luck with your journey. I wish you the best. Let us know how things turn out for you.

This comment is to DannyFL. I found your comment a little offensive. I go to a methadone clinic and not everyone that goes to one is "freaking disgusting".  Yes some of the people that do go there are there because they have hit their rock bottom and they are seeking help. Maybe you've never hit your rock bottom but I have and I don't appreciate ignorant comments like that from people who have never been in those shoes. You should never judge people before you get to know them. I believe it was God who said "Do unto others as you'd have done to you".
