Well, like the rest of you I too have been on pain meds for years. 2 back fissions and three back surgeries. I'm taking 4 hydro 10.5 4 x a day and one oxy 20mg am. I too want to get off. Scared to death of the withdrawals. I heard this medication suboxoneWell is suppose to be great to help with withdrawals. Can anyone tell me if they have had this kinda of help. I can't imagine being one just one and still having horrible withdraws. Help!!!!
I am tapering off of subs, but am wondering if you have tried to taper down off your meds. You really aren't taking a lot, and after your detox you're done. I only took the subs after every other attempt to quit and failed so they work wonderful for me. No withdrawals so far, except for initial induction, and my mind is clear and I can feel again. My addiction was a great deal mental and very compulsive, up to 20 10mg methadone a day and alcohol when that wash't enough. Sure I have pain, but that stopped being the real reason I used a long time ago. If you want to be drug free, you will still have to go through withdrawals with the subs as I am. My point here is, educate yourself about subs, but attempt easier methods in the mean time. Subs are prescribed for long term chronic pain as well. I would rather be addicted to subs than any other opiate, but I'm a full blown addict. You will have to decide for yourself what it is you really want. I used to have withdrawals while I was high if I didn't have any for the next day. Fear is a natural response, but what we are afraid of can make things worse than they really are. Good luck.
Thank you for responding. You know I have just read so much and sometimes that's even worse. Believe me I have educated myself. I'm constantly reading about this. I guess what I'm saying is I don't want to feel pain at all. Well, I guess you have to feel the pain to get the gain. I sure don't want to be on anything after I get off. That's the whole point. What do you have tondo for the induction phase? I use to take6 a day sometimes even more. Somim not really sure what my system is use to at this pint. I have no choice but to take 4 meaning that's all I'm allowed. I'm just scared to death of how it's going to be during and after. Life in general. I have been on meds since early 90's. I'm an addicted and this I know. I hate it but it is what it is. I just want to be free of it all and be normal whatever that is. I have a vacation in augustbwith my husband to Florida and I can't even get excited cuz all I'm doing is absorbing myself in this. I can't get into a doc until August so I have to wait. Augustb30 to be exact. 2 refills left. So it's the waiting part that's so hard. Hard not to take when you have them. Can't seem to just relax and wait. If you could tell me how you felt b4 you started the suboxoneWell. Thank you so much for feedback. Just curious
I have been on subs now for 3 weeks 21 days to be exact and believe me it has not been pain free but considering I was taking very large amounts of tramadol and loritab and during withdraw I relapsed three times. I have been an addict for ten years and this is my 5th and final time I pray of detoxing. Honestly subs have there own pain associated and if you can taper to where you feel no pain then you are very lucky. I have never been that lucky! Anyways you just have to go into wanting to quitting with fear in your heart but strength and the value of your life to guide you! Also I think its time for you to jump off the medicine where your at beings as you are not on a lot how it is! If you need an ear anytime I am here for you!
Hello, thanks for reading my post. 1. It's time. I can't get them anyways which is really for the best. Not in pain any more. 2. Thats a good question. I guess I don't want to feel sick and then I'm afraid of being depressed.. I heard it was dangerous to go cold turkey. So you think it's ok to go cold turkey. How long does it take?
Just read your post. Do you mind me asking how many you were taking a day. I didn't think tramadol was that addictive. I've heard if you do exactly what the dr. Says its pain free. I don't know everyone is different. I'm probably going to go thru it. Anxiety is going to be a big problem. Any suggestions?
Sorry, lost you last week when you asked me about subs. If total sobriety is your goal, I agree with kellkell. Subs have their place, but you are on a relatively low dose. 1mg of sub covers as many opiate receptors as c. 40mg of morphine. ei. 2mg sub = 160mg morphine, about what you take now. Some doctors will give small amounts of sub for 5-7 days to assist with the acute withdrawal symptoms. You have to go into moderate withdrawal to start induction though, not pain free. I was on 150-200mg methadone a day. You asked how I felt before I got on subs. Sick and in pain. What made the mental part ease? I have been going to a 12 step meeting every night, I talk with my wife, my kids, my friends who are sober, and this forum. I am amazed at how receptive and helpful everyone has been. I was embarrassed and scared to admit defeat, but when I did, the anxiety is way less, not gone. The Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol at the bottom right of this page help a lot with my nerves. I have witnessed many people going cold turkey at much higher dose of much stronger drugs and none of them died or had any permanent damage. I hope you don't have to hit the bottom as hard as I did before you make this decision. I would still have withdrawals if I took the amount you do. The doc gave me 150mg hydro a day, which I took all at once, just to take the edge off. Nothing lasts forever. The euphoria or the detox. Hope this helps and keep us posted.
Thank you for re-posting. Anxiety is my worry. So when I visit dr. For 1st time does he give sub to you then are do I detox b4 I go? The hardest part for me is I can't get in until aug 30th. My mind is my worst enemy right now. To much time on my hands to think about it. I have to wait until then. Still just 4 a day. I guess I need to start cutting back now. Will that help?
Time to think is what made taper impossible for me. It you can cut back, that will help. My doctor told me to keep myself comfortable until I saw him. It took a couple doctors before I trusted one. Have you asked your doctor what he wants you to do? If you have decided to go with subs, then what kind of plan do you have and what plan does your doctor usually prescribe? I started on the lowest dose of sub possible after 3 days of no opiates. You shouldn't have to wait that long, as your dose is lower and methadone has a much longer half life than your daily dose. My doctor gave me instructions and sent me home with a script the first day. Many doctors induce in the office, which is probably better for anxiety. Click on the Suboxone/Subutex FAQ at the bottom right, I trust that information and would take a copy of that to the doctor if you want. See what he says. Maybe you need more time on subs to deal with your mental/spiritual healing, I don't know. I believe in aftercare. The forum and web in general are full of conflicting opinions, you will have to form your own. I will help in any way I can. Good luck and keep us posted.
I haven't seen a dr. Yet. I have cut back from 6 a day to 4. Sometimes 5. But try not to take 5 . I have no idea what his plan is for me. My back dr. Does not treat this. I have had to make an appt with a dr. Who has permission to use sub. So, what I'm saying is I don't know what he has planned. I haven't seen him yet. This is a dr. I have never seen. I'm just waiting. Have to go to Florida for 8 days on vacation. Not that it's bad that I'm going. Just know that as soon as I get back on mon. Then Thursday I will see him at 11. Like I said anxiety is the part that's killing me. I'm also prescribed soma . Only take 2 at nite. They also have be on klonopin .05 mg for anxiety. That helps also. I don't know if I can take that with sub are not. The way I feel right now I just want to go cold turkey. I just heard its very dangerous. I'm just sick of thinking about it.
At your low dosage, cold turkey would be okay. If you are ready, then you are ready. You can read many many posts with much higher doses and there have been no dangers. The danger is taking them until you reach a tolerance like mine. So you are at 40-50mg hydro a day. You should feel like you have the flu for about 7 days and then slowly recover back in about 30 days. This time frame comes from others experience. For me, when hydros still worked, I wold quit and have three days of flu and about two weeks of recovery. My metabolism is real fast and I heal quick. Every body is different, that's why its hard to get a straight answer. The klonipine will help with the withdrawals some. I don't know much about somas. You can't mix benzos and subs safely. If it where me, I would stop the hydros and wait it out, subs will be worse withdrawals than you would have now. I would start a new thread on Post a Question for support. Knowing what I know now, that's probably the least painful route, if you don't still have other pain issues. Not painless, but it can get worse. Think it over one last time and make a plan. Stick to it no matter what. Having a plan before you feel sick helps a lot with my anxiety. Write it down and don't let your head play tricks on you.Good luck and keep us posted.
I have to comment on this. About 6 months ago maybe a little less i was taking exsacttly 30-33 hydros 10.5s a day. Im 26 yrs old. I felt horrible and knew i had to doing something. That is 100 truth 3 days off 30 aday which i could of killed my self being so stupid taking that many. Anyways u can do it off ur low dose for sure then ull feel great after those few days it not gonna be as bad as u think i though i was gonna go crazy i was taking them about a 1yrand a half and did it in three days .. I hope that helps. I did fail 3 weeks after but not to as many then led back to about 20 stupid me. Now im 131/2 weeks pregnant and cant cold turkey cause could put a lot of stress on baby im taking about 8 a day now sadly and preg. Went from 20 to 8 a day in about 2 weeks im trying to keep cutting ang gotta see doc to safely stopif i cant keep doing what im doing. But i really beleaive if u can take three days off and go threw sick feeling a few nights u can be done .just stay strong and dont fail. I hate feeling u cant get up in morning without taking a damn pill within the first 30 min of the morning it *****. Stop now u can do it. U CANNNNNNNNNNN:)))))))))))
Wow for that kind of surgery you are on a low dose! Your best bet is to taper down on what you have.
Sub give you withdrawal too so it's not a wonder drug. With dr supervision can be done.
Would you have dr support with this or are you alone?
