I agree with worried, less is more. My doc prescribed way too much for me and I was a 160mg to 320mg a day oxy user for 10 yrs and percs and hydros 4 yrs b/f that. Listen to worried, she knows what she is talking about. My doc gave me 24mg a day and I am almost at 12mg in a weeks time. What does that tell you??? The docs are in bed with the pharm companies. My doc even wanted me to stay on sub for life!!!!! Can u believe that? Crazy I know. Good luck. We are here to help you. Stay strong.
just remember...the sub has a long halflife and it may take up to 3 days for the effects of what u took to wear off...play it by ear...u may even need to skip a day..see how u feel..if u r feeling wds..take the 2 mg..if not i would skip it as the effects of the dose u took will linger for a few days...good luck and this happens to people on here all the time....the doctors overprescribe...and feel like u feel..at the right amount u should feel fine
I think 2 mg's will be much better for you.
Good luck.
After reading all these posts and ending up in the hospital AGAIN tonight with anxiety and very high blood pressure, I am going to see my doctor on Monday and get off the sub. I was just telling my husband on the way home from the hosp. that I think I could weather the wd's from a taper OR cold turkey better than what I've gone through in just the last 24 hours! This is crazy...Thank you all for your encouraging and wise words. I will be keeping my appt. with the drug rehab psychiatrist as I know I will benefit from her help. By the way, I thought I DID research suboxone pretty thoroughly, but a lot of what I'm experiencing was never mentioned. I will start out tomorrow morn with just 2 mg instead of the 8 I used today. Maybe that will give me some relief before I go to see Dr. on Monday. I hate to have to miss more work with the wd's, but my boss thinks I've recently suffered some psych problems with Chantix (stop smoking drug) so I'll just have to extend it. I couldn't bring myself to tell him the real reason I was out for a bit last week. I work in a school and I'm afraid it would get around as my co-workers are very gossipy. Funny though, I don't care if they think I'm temporarily crazy instead of an addict, which is pretty crazy anyway. It seems to "regular" people's minds that having mental issues is much more respectable than drug issues. Again, thanks everyone.

Totally agree with the people on here who say you are on WAY to high a dose. You probably shoud be on 2 mg twice a day to take the edge off your w/d's. Let me tell you after taking my last crumb of Sub 10 days ago, it has kicked my butt big time. I was on it for 21 days and it did what it was supposed to do -- allow me to go almost three weeks with fairly mild W/D's --- Now, let me add that even after only 21 days, it was a big bear to stop taking the Sub. It is powerfully addictive and most doctors over prescribe it and many times not understanding this drug, they create addicts who stay on Sub for many months, or years. When you quit the doctor I heard about called it "The Suboxone Spanking" because it exacts revenge on us. Anyway, just my two cents worth --- I know there are other opinions but this is what happened to me. All the best.
amen...a friend of mine was at a 150 mg oxy habit and the 16 mg of sub they prescribed almost killed her...she had to have someone stay with her as she was sick as a dog....it was too much for her/enede up in the ER as well...and it took 3 days for her to feel better due to the long half life of sub..sometimes i wonder about doctors/and i am a nurse and have many friends who r docs....but an 8 hour course they r required to take is just not cutting it, it seems...the pharmaceutical company teaches this course/and they sell the sub! so is a low dose in their best interest for profit? NO...they would love for u to stay on it forever....lesser is better and shorter verses longer is better....be safe...and know hat u r getting into...sub is strong....
I am not a doctor but based on experience I will tell you that your dose it way too high. I guess everyone is different, but I was using around 200mg of oxy (much stronger med than hydro) and they put me on 16 and felt the same things you did. Feeling very tired, disoriented, confused...that is a sign that you are taking to much.
I used vicodin for a year and half, and then oxy for almost a year topping out at 200-250mg day. And after a 8 month experience with Suboxone and getting off....If i was back at the point where I was using 100-150 mg of vicodin there is no way I would use suboxone, vicodin is a much weaker opiate than suboxone. You are going to be basically addicting yourself to a stronger opiate and then tapering it off.
In my opinion, based off my experience....I would taper the vicodin, or take a week off, ask for some clonodine and a sleep aid and ride out the WDs.
Suboxone is an expensive, glorified, "classy" methadone....it is just another drug replacing the one you are already on. It is over prescribed with long drawn out tapers for profit.
Get away from it while you can..... Read the Suboxone info at the bottom of the main substance abuse page.
130 mg of hydro is not often an indication for sub but if u have tried and failed several times to quit before perhaps u can succeed with sub/with aftercare included...just dont get addicted to the sub in the process..as it is extremely powerful...it sounds like u r @ too high of a dose and most doctors start people out way high for some reason...less is better with sub and the shorter time u r on it the better if a long term use is not ur goal.....1 mg of sub = 25-30 mg of hydro...it is that strong 16 mg of sub is equivalent to a bu!! load of hydros...8 mg would be 200-250 mg of hydro in equivelence..it works differently...partial agonist..but is powerful,,,there are several long term subbers here and perhaps they can help u more with this drug as they have been on it quite a while..before i quit i had used sub here and there when i had no pills...as my neighbor has them ..being a hydro user i realized it was stronger and it scared me...gave me a jump start and at 2 mg i felt ok from a 80 mg hydro habit...4 mg i felt like u...foggy...so tapered off the hydros without sub when i finally quit narcotics...just seems like many never get off the drug..and for some people that is a good thing and the choice they make...just be safe, educate urself and know what u r doing and what ur goals r
cjoy, I want to get this back up to the top .I have never taken it but others have. I have heard a few say they cold not keep there eyes open .I am sure someone will post that can help.
I was taking up to 13 hydros a day for a year.Sometimes the Norco instead. My doctor is suggesting that 16 mgs of sub is the average people use to get off the opiates. He's a back pain specialist and is licensed to dispense sub. How much of the opiates were you taking? I felt my tolerance was getting up there, but then I see that I was actually taking a small amount compared to some things I read in here. I actually felt a lessening of the bad side effects when I upped the dose today, but am still a bit confused, VERY tired, and just feeling weird. Thanks for writing.
Did your normal doctor give you the Suboxone ?
How much opiates were you on or abusing ?
They say if a person who had no opiates tolerance took Suboxone that they would feel real bad and be all messed up. So maybe if your abuse wasnt that bad then maybe Sub's are to much for you.
I have a high tolerance for opiates and i'm only using 1-2 mg's of Suboxone.
