Anyone who has been through this?? Please help

by AmbBam, Nov 23, 2008 05:20PM
I was on xanax for 8 years. I took more than perscribed, up to 10 mg a day.. I was perscribed 3 mg per day. I knew I had a problem, so i put myself into a detox center where i stayed for 8 days..while I was in there I had a siezure, and got pretty sick. They sent me home with buspar for anxiety. The buspar works wonderfully, but my question is...how long will I have this "out of body"feeling? I know my body is not going to go back to normal right away but how long does it take? It has been 18 days. Everyday gets a little better, but I cannot stand this numb feeling...I am hoping someone will know what I am talking about and will be able to tell me there is hope. Thanks and God bless.

you should probably be on librium for a while before switching to buspar.it's not going to be easy.do you have a good sleep medication.xanax should be tapered very slowly to avoid the complications you went through.good luck, stay on the forum with your updates .there people out here that are truly concerned

Please let me know how the buspar is working 4 u. I have generalized anxiety and heard this does not work. Everyone is different though. Your experience will help me greatly. I think if you want something to work, it is mind over matter. Look at the affects of placebos. May ask my doc about buspar.

Prayers & peace 2 u

That feeling will go away but it will take time you were on xanax for eight years so give yourself time and try not to rush that only will amke the anxiety worse take it from some one who knows first hand, just take it one day even one minuet at a time if you have to but don't give up we are all pulling for you
god bless and peace to you

To: everyone
Thank u all so much! Everyday seems to get a little better.  I just can't shake this wierd feeling...ohh and the dreams I have are so odd!!

To Prodigal Girl: The buspar actually takes the edge off my anxiety without the "high" or "groggy" feeling I got from xanax. I was told it could take a little while to work, but my anxiety was down an hour after I took the first one. I also agree with it being mind over matter. if I didnt want it to work I really think it would not have worked. Good luck to you. Let me know if it works for you.

Again thank you all for your kind words, help and support. God Bless

Sorry i didn't reply earlier but I switched from ISP and it took over a week for my new provider to set up the internet.
I can relate to you, I have the same addiction, but not for 8 years, for about 3 to 4 only, same high dose.
I started tapering down in July if I recall right and Had my ups and downs, sometimes almost gave up. I suffered from the really frustrating muscle cramps associated to the Xanax withdrawal, specially In my upper back, shoulders and my neck, sometimes or most of the time this felt as an intense pain with  tender points and burning like sensation, gave me the chills to apply anything to it, heater pads helped a bit but not much, so far my doctor has not found a muscle relaxer that works for me, I had little anxiety whatsoever  and oddly no flat feelings, just edgy and irritable, lack of sleep too.To me the key is to withdraw very slowly to avoid undesirable withdrawal effects, I found that reducing 0.25mg every 2 or 3 weeks is more pron e to go easy in your body, tried a couple of times to do it faster and, oh boy, I will not desire this to my enemies, if any. I forget to mention, headaches leading to migraines are also a problem I found. Yes, this way is slow, but secure and you will most likely succeed rather than give up and relapse.
Good luck, feel free to contact me if you need some other advise or support.
