I need help figuring out what is right and what is wrong.... I am.np dumbo when it comes to opiates...i have been "clean" from opiates (meaning oxy's) for almost 6 years. I was on methadone which was literally the worst thing in the world as I am concerned...and stupidly I transitioned into a suboxone program for the past 5 or so years...I was so sick that I should have just come off...but I was 20 and I didn't think...so now that I am almost 30 years old I have a husband and "perfect" life. He doesn't know much about these drugs at all. I want to have children. I am a beautiful young girl....just a bit lost. I have been tapering MYSELF off of subs...i was on 2 a day and I am almost off right now. Literally crumbles of a pill every other day. My problem is that I developed anxiety in the meantime and my suboxone doctor prescribed me Xanax. Too much for my small body. I feel as though I need it right now until I am off subs 100%. But any suggestions about after?!
not everyone who takes suboxone has bad withdrawals, and if tapered properly, withdrawals do not last anywhere near as long as methadone. you have done EXCELLENT with your taper off methadone, i am confident you can taper properly off suboxone. the only thing to keep in mind is because methadone withdrawals CAN last so long, you (depending on your decision of course) might need to be on suboxone longer because of this. i KNEW ahead of time i wouldnt be doing any 5, 10 or even 21 day detox with suboxone because of the length of time methadone withdrawals CAN last, and i was right...
and sure enough because of my dose and length of time on methadone it was almost the full 6 weeks before i really felt the normalcy everyone (who transitions from a short acting opiate) says they felt on their very first day on suboxone. you, i am sure will not have to worry about this because your methadone dose is so low, you should get quicker results. and if your sure of wanting to be on it the shortest time possible, you WILL be able to tell when the suboxone is working, it was almost immediate with me when the methadone was gone...you will be able to tell. and then at that point you can start your taper. i say go for it, you have done excellent so far, and i see no reason to make yourself suffer any longer...
now the clonidine would be very beneficial to you, i just hope you are not confusing this with klonopin? 2 totally different medications...clonidine is not in the class of benzos, just thought i would clear this up, a lot of people get them confused, clonidine is a blood pressure medication used often to treat withdrawal symptoms and works great, its not a benzo like klonopin, valium or xanax.
good luck with whatever you decide. if you have any questions on the induction-transition from methadone to suboxone, let me know, i have done it.
The only similiarity to methadone in withdrawals is length. And that is really up to you. When a proper taper is done, and Sub is used as a detox tool and not a cure-all you should have minimal withdrawals when stopping Sub. Those minimal symptoms do sometimes linger but not like methadone.
Do your research before making the decision. Ask any question you don't know. You must go into it with a plan and stick to it. Don't be one of these people stuck on it for a year then wondering why they feel so bad coming off it. Get on it,taper off, go to aftercare, get your life together. I took it for 10 days and never looked back. Its been over 9 months of no pain pills and it couldn't be better. I had 24 hours of sweats/chills when I stopped Sub. Which is nothing in the grande scheme of withdrawal symptoms.
I say go for the suboxone. Make sure you understand the plan. How much, how long and tapering off of. Methadone is a bear to get off of.
