Hospitals are prepared in delivery to both test and administer narcane or equivalent if necessary. She wouldnt even be close to the first mom they have seen that way.  It shouldnt have to get there, though. Doctors should be in the loop....and I do hope that you have discussed this with the parents. It could very well be the correct thing to do - i am not there. I might suggest trying to get the parents involved in something that might remind them of the opportinity they now have to participate in one of the greatest natural wonders. That would be childbirth and being a part of a loving family. I do realize the reality of the situation, too. It would be a terrible shame if they placed the high above the child. But I am afraid that it wouldnt surprise me anymore........best of luck to you and them .......eagle

Well from all that i have seen, heard, experienced- the system is all screwed up and i would not want to see this poor baby caught up in it. If you alert the authorities you are handing over all rights, priveledges, desicions and everything to them.

gosh--that is bad.

this guy i know and his girlfriend were addicted to oxy too. she did the pills pregnant too.  the baby was born with his stomach and stomach parts on the outside of him. the baby was in ICU for a month.....had to have several corrective surgeries....IV's in his head.....it was horrible.  that pisses me off. i cant stand that!  do ur best to get the baby.  i do know tho that even with the girl i know that did the pills preg, etc she still kept the baby.....i know that is messed up. she eventually lost custody of him to the state........because of drugs....and missing court dates, etc.  but initally, after he was born, she did keep him.

you just gotta try and do what u can. that is so sad tho.

does she know that u know she does pills? have u confronted her? if so, what does she say?

Well, if she stops taking them now, she WILL go into w.d therefore the baby will as well. I do know that if you are physically addicted your dr, would tell you NOT to just stop. Becuse w.d is VERY dangerous for the baby. So I wouldn't suggest she up and stop. She needs to see a dr. so they can do two things. 1. Start to wean her off so the baby has a better chance when born and or 2. be prepared so when the baby is born, the dr. will know its going to be addicted to oxys and can take the necessary steps in making sure it lives.

This is like crazy, no one can make this girl do anything she doesn't want to. It does sound as if she is too stoned to know what is going on and its sad. If you go to the authorities, they will take that baby from her when it is born. So I would talk to them and tell her to go get help to save this child and that you want to take care of the child. So sad....this is soo sad...

I was told the lady who carried the baby told her Dr and he said not to stop taking them.  I don't know if I think that is the truth, just passing on what I was told.  I think people will tell you anything you want to hear.

My  brother and her have both been addicts for years. They have both been to rehab several times, only their reasons for rehab werent to get better it was to stay out of jail.  The girlfriend has another child who lives with a family member and she rarely makes an attempt to see it. I have been sucked into their lies so many times thinking "this time their gonna get clean and stay that way" It truely breaks my heart every time i see one of them with their heads bobbing because they cant hold it up from being so stoned.  I have finally came to the realization that they dont want to get better.

The other day i walked into their home and heard her yelling at my brother because their was no more oxy. I truely  beleive they are both at the point that they wouldnt be able to stay straight enough to realize they have a baby.  That is the reason I am interfering in their lives.

Im sure she hasnt confided in her Dr. about her habit.  She tries to act like she doesnt do anything like this, however it is very obvious that she does.

If any of you out their can help in any way possible, please do.

To all of you who have responded thank I  do appreciate your thoughts.

Um, I don't think this girl is saying she is planning on taking the baby. I am sure this is something that has already been discussed prior. I don't think she is just planning on this girl giving birth and she will just go take the baby.

Hopefully, the dr.knows that the woman is taking oxys while pregnant. If not, someone needs to be told and she needs to be seen. THe dr.s need to be prepared to help the baby once it is born. If you want to see the baby be healthy again, it is probably going to need to be weaned off the oxys.

THis right here is the prime example to all the girls on this forum who "dont know" if the pills they are taking effects their unborn children growing inside them, well...ofcourse it does....the baby is feeding on what you put into your body. My gosh..I pray for this childs life. Good luck.

Just recently my sons gf's sister had a baby born addicted to roxy's.  She told me the baby would cry all the time and shake.  The hospital did nothing, nada.  I seemed as if the babies mother didn't care or show any emotion about her child being born with an addiction.  I can say that he is very adorable and seems to have no negative side effects and I saw him shortly after he was home from the hospital.  The first couple of days where bad according to my sons gf.

If the baby shows signs of withdrawal at birth the hospital will do a drug test. At that point, if the baby test positive then the hospital social worker will be called. However, if she can kick it and the baby withdraws in utero then you might have a tougher time getting the baby.

I too agree with LateAugust -- - The agenda of the mother may be to only get her next fix - You sound like you are really concerned about the baby - -good for you.   You may have to make a choice here - - if you do I encourage you to come down on the side of the baby - -- a personal talk with the Ob/Gyn may do a lot of good and help the baby a lot of trouble.   I have personally seen pregnant women take Oxy and the result after birth is not a pretty site -- get involved.    I firmly believe that what people decide to do with their own bodies is pretty much their business - but when their are children involved, they have just made it an issue for a loving and caring relative or friend.  All the best to you.

Most addicts  severely addicted to oxy have one priority,  and that unfortunately is oxy.  I do not judge your actions, I applaud you for getting involved for the best interest of the unborn child.  However,  I would get involved with the OB/GYN assuming  the birth mother has one, as soon as possible.  I am also assuming you have talked with them of giving you custody and will need to involve Children Protective Services before the child is born.

That baby deserves the very basic of chances upon his/her birth,  bless you for being there.

The docs can  inform you of what symptons to expect from a baby born to an oxy addict,

Does your brother and his girlfriend want their baby?

Do not be so quick to judge. what are their plans? and intentions?

without knowing the whole story, i would have to say that you are interferring with something that is huge. have you tried to reason with them? need more info.

cannot help you with how it affects the baby. but it cannot be good probably and something needs to be done before the baby is born. professional help is advised.
