Hello Everyone, I am back home and doing surprisingly well. The first thing I asked the surgeon was about having a pain pump when I woke up. He told me they didn't use those for GB surgery but that I would have plenty of meds to help me remain comfortable. So, I worked myself into a frenzy for nothing.
I did mess up though. About 2 weeks ago, I decided I was doing great and I wanted to stop taking all kinds of medicines. I stopped the only 2 I take, Lotrel (blood pressure) and prozac. To make a long story short, when they took my blood pressure prior to the surgery it was150/110. The anesthesiologist remembered me from my hysterectomy and I had done the same thing then too.
After recovery, I was put in a semi-private room with an elderly lady who had EVERY member of her family there. They finally put me into a private room around 6:00. After that, everything was smooth sailing. I started getting up and moving around and was even able to eat. They had me on Dilaudid every 3-4 hours and Demerol for break-through pain. Not once was the pain really bad. I think I was expecting the worst; which is much bettr than not being prepared. They gave me a big shot of dilaudid and a demerol before I left because it was about an hour drive. I did really good on the way home and now I am just chilling on the couch watching "Without A Trace."
Again, thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. I could definately feel them.
Susan
