handing ur pills over and tapering can help..if u can mange that..if u cant then ct is an option..read thru the health pages...that is a high dose...150 mgs..ask ur doctor for some meds to help wityh the wd like clonidine, phenergan,, valium and sumpin to sleep...if u feel u can not do it..then sub or methadone for a very short time can get u thru....if u CT u will need some time off work...good luck to u and keep moving forward
This is what I did... I went to my Dr. and came clean about my problem and asked for his help. He prescribed me Clonidine 0.1 mg 2x a day, after 2 weeks 1x a day , 2 weeks later none. I swear by them!!! If it weren't for the Clonidine I would not have been able to go cold turkey. I too was taking Lortabs (well, any Hydro really) about 10 a day. This is my second time trying to quit and I am determined it's the last!! I come here everyday and read and sometimes reply, but mostly I just make sure to log on and connect to others, that is what is keeping me focused , grounded and strong. There are options available to you, try what fits ou best, but keep in mind it will tough but not as bad as living on pills. i worried all the time I would get busted and lose my daughter, or lose my job or maybe just not wake up one morning. Addiction was my own private hell, no one knew but me the pain and despair and loneliness I felt, it is so great to come here and find others who know EXACTLY what you're going thru. Keep logging on, and you CAN beat this!
first off, congrats to you for wanting to get clean and free of this!! i was taking anywhere from 14-18 lortab/hydrocodone 7.5/500 pills a day for about 2 years. 2 pills at one time. i am currently on day 31 clean from opiates cold turkey!! as eagle stated, you will more than likely feel discomfort either way you decide to do this, taper or cold turkey.
the w/d experience/period is the same yet different time wise for everyone. i hope that makes sense. i have tapered before in the past and felt horrible that whole time. during the time i tapered i was only taking six 7.5 pills a day. this time i did it cold turkey and it really wasn't that bad. it wasn't great, don't get me wrong!! the first 5-7 days are the worst physically. it gets easier day by day though... for me, day 1 was the worst. on day two i started taking vitamin b12 injections and that really gave me sooo much energy that i was out shopping. i still had moments of fatigue throughout the day pretty much for 3 weeks after i stopped the pills.
def. go to the store and pick up some vitamin b12 pills and start taking those. they will give you energy. also take a good multi-vitamin!! there is the "thomas receipe" located within the health pages. i personally have never used it but some here swear by it so check it out!! i also took one soma (muscle relaxer) the first two nights of my cold turkey to help relax me and my legs and get some sleep!! w/d's from opiates cause restless leg syndrome which many people complain of!!. also try some benedryl or tylenol pm/advil pm before bed if needed for sleep as well.
good luck to you and to whatever method you choose!! it can be done, you just have to want it!!
jess :)
I'm coming off vic's, but popular opinion on kicking both of these is to try tapering down.
Good for you for coming here and taking the first step. It sure won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but coming here helps alot. Nobody here judges you and they offer a ton of encouragement. I'm sure some of the other members have some ideas to help you too. Stay strong!
You are probably not going to get out of a 6 year 15 pill a day use without some discomfort. But you do have a few choices. You may taper down if you have intense willpower or someone else to hold the pills for you. You may quit cold turkey and get tough with it. Or you may opt for some type of maintenance - methadone or suboxone. You are awfully young to decide to get on something for the rest of your life .... you may possibly do sub or meth very short term and try to get off them within a few weeks. Read through the archives on med help and you will understand your options a little better. There is a great deal of help and support - not to mention experience - on this forum.... best of luck in whatever you decide to do -
