Big test of my sobriety

On Monday was the first big test of my sobriety.  I  took 8-10 Vics for 3 yrs for a back injury.  I have been totally clean since Aug. 28.  After many relapses, I believe to be in the best frame of mind in many years.  Well I put my back out in a bad way the day before Thanksgiving.  I survived until Monday when I just could'nt take it any more and called my new doctor.  I saw him Monday morning and he said to get a MRI to make sure I have not injured it again, and said he could treat me for the pain.  Asked if I wanted VICS.  I told him no, that I wanted 800mg motrin and that was it.  I asked him to please write in my file no more Narcotics and that was it.  I am suprised by my strength and courage but so very thankful that I could do it.  It is possible and I did it.  Four days later and my back is feeling better (much better) and I am a stronger person mentally for getting past the biggest urge to use.  So please know that it is possible, not matter how hard it is in the beginning, it DOES get better. Fabulous actually.  Good luck to all!!!
