Blood Alcholol Levels

Blood Alcholol Levels

Dear Doctor:

My question had to do with blood alcohol levels.  I am a recovering alcoholic who went through in-patient rehab three years ago.  I had a couple of relapses in early 2007 but was totally clean for 18 months.  Recently, I was out with some new business associates and succumbed to peer pressure by consuming three vodka cosmopolitans.  I was close to home but got into a car accident due to a deer running in the road.  I was taken to the hospital by ambulance -- they tested my blood alcohol level and it was at 3.2.  I was shocked.

Does a fatty liver ( which I have) and stress/shock from an accident have an effect on blood alcohol levels?   Because I had not had a drink for so long (and I haven't had one since) also have an effect on how your body processes something that has become foreign to your system?  I knew what I was doing at the time of the accident and didn't feel drunk at all.  How long does it take for the alcohol to show up in your blood?

Thanks so much for your help.
