Yes, it will help. You just arent going to receive a "get out of jail free card" for this....there will still be a few days of discomfort....but it is well worth it..good luck! Keep posting for support...

my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that.

didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.

I have been on Clonidine for about a year for my blood pressure, but it helped alot with the w/d's. It doesn't take all the w/d's away but I would say it takes away about 75% of them. Taking that helped me function but I still had the rls and headache. It doesn't help with the mental part at all though so be prepared for that. As TinHead said you don't want to stop Clonidine cold turkey because it can cause you blood pressure to go through the roof...I ran out of it once and missed 2 doses and ended up in the e.r with a blood pressure of 250/150 so be careful coming off of it. Good luck, You can do this. Make sure to take care of yourself.

I think clonidine may be extremely effective for w/d, but not certain.  I ran out of my oxy early (treatment of severe pain for fractured vertebrae) because I used more during an extremely painful week. I thought I could make it up by taking less when the pain slowed a bit.  Of course, it didn't, at least not in time, and I wasn't paying attention. The rule is that the Doc does not re-supply if you run out before you should.  So I went Cold Turkey from 300 mgs of oxy per day on a Thurs night--next appointment following Monday.  The WDs were unbelievably awful plus the back pain was way out of control.  I called the doc on Sunday a.m. (he was on call) and he prescribed clonidine.  I took three   .1mg tabs on Sunday.  Finally fell asleep for the first time since Thurs for about 3 hours in early a.m.  on Monday,  When I woke up, the back pain was terrible, but the WD had almost disappeared....only minor leg cramping...Not the all over terrible deep bone pain of wd.  BUT, I don't know if this the the clonidine, or just the passage of time from Thurs to Monday morning.  I think the clonidine, or a combination of both.
