CATUF

hey...your post below sparked my interest.  i am a huge believer in vitamins/nutrients and their role in brain chemistry and the body in general.
i have three sons who are addicts, suffer from depression, and two of them were diagnosed with ADHD when they were in grammar school.  one is bipolar also.
one of my sons also went to a long term residential treatment program...14 months...for a crack addiction.  i, believe as you, that these 28 day programs...or the "treat em and street em" programs do nothing to address the underlying problem...it takes more than 28 days for that.
i went to the website you mentioned and saw that this doctor has a book out on how to end addiction...do you know much about this book?  does it explain, in depth, the nutritional role in recovery?  i am very much interested in getting it.

Have either of you noticed what's going on with the forum?? People are missing and new people are showing up with other's names. Right now I can only trust both of you and MissAngel and hellc. I know all of you are who you say. I'm almost done with this w/d and then I only have one more patch to go before I'm done with this fentanyl. I'm on 25mcg's now and next taper I will be on 12. Then none. There is a w/d after each taper but the last one will be the worst. I hope you're both doing well tonight.
Take Care and PLEASE watchout for anyone that comes here with my name.

LL - I think the book you're talking about is End Your Addiction Now, by Charles Gant.  It is a good book and it helped me a great deal.  Gant has a little bit of the used car salesman in him and at times he seems to me to be over-selling his ideas, etc.  However, I think his "product" is sound and the amino acid & standard supps work wonders.

The thing I like about his book (which has been beside my bed since I got home in 10/2005) is that has several very quick and easy 15-20 questions tests that will tell you if you're defficient in specific neurotransmitters.  Then, if you are, there's a recipe for exactly what aminos/supps you need to take to address that.

Another book that's very similar is "Seven Weeks to Sobriety: The Proven Program to Fight Alcoholism through Nutrition," by Joan Mathews Larsen.  Like Gant's book, Seven Weeks looks at SNAFU'd brain chemistry as the cause of addiction and the treatment of brain chemistry as the "cure."  Larsen has far less of the huckster in her than does Gant, but then again her book doesn't seem to get to the point of providing very specific and useful direction as well as Gant's.  I'm glad I have both of these.

Another book on that page that sounds like it would be good for you would be "OVERLOAD: [ADD] and the Addictive Brain," by David Miller and Ken Blum. -- Two other books on that page that I know well and highly recommend are "Staying Clean &  Sober" and "The Mood Cure."
