How are you doing now? I'm just starting to try and stop using & I could not take the leg pain. I've been taking 3 to 10 perks or vicodin for 6 years
what can I expect? How do I know it's WD or back pain?

hello 102084 welcome to the forum,, you will receive more exposure if you start your own thread. scroll to the top and hit the green button post a question. copy and paste this ok. first congrats on beating the cancer.. and also on wanting to get off the percs.. you are 3 days in.. this is good the worst is just about behind you. wd last about a week with day 3 and 4 being the worst.. so almost there..take as many hot baths/showers as you can. this will help a lot with the legs and muscle aches.. I know you are throwing up but you have to keep fluids in you. get a sports drink and sip it. this will help you to replace the electrolytes. try to nibble on something even if it is just dry toast.. we also have a regiment of vitamins to take in the amino acid protocol bottom left.. they sell a product for anxiety that is natural that I used. Valerian root you can get it at any drug store.. walking even short distances will help a great deal. you may not feel like it but try to force yourself. snorting your meds is addict behavior for sure..you may want to check into aa our na meeting even therapy our a addiction therapist.. take good care of you ok.. your children although grown still need their mom.. keep reading re post and reach out for support.. again I'm very happy that you fought your way back from cancer now you are fighting your way back from addiction :) lesa

I have had an addiction to percocet since i was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago.  I have quit completely this week.  i have been without for 3 days now and am having horrible withdrawl.  I also suffer with depression.  But, I am ready to be clean.  I have no pecs left in the house and no way of getting any.  I am down to almost 100 lbs.  Can anyone share with me how to get through and how long this is going to last?  I have barely any strength, my heart is pounding, i panic, i can't keep food down, no appetite.  I have shared my addiction with one person in my life so have some support, but he is very busy working, and is doing his best to help me through.  My kids are my world, but after what we have been through with my cancer, I can't crush their world with this.  They are adults and have started their new lives, just married and one starting school.  Someone please help me?  I have spent the last 2 months not just swallowing my pills, but also snorting them:(

Well I think you should have your answer....the pain from w/d's are only temporary and yes they suck but the outcome is the most rewarding of all...you have your life back free and clean, I was on vic's for ten long yrs and I stopped cold turkey and i suffered but it was short lived and now a year later Im still clean and living my life to the fullest....being on these drugs just overtakes your body, mind and soul it is a vicious cycle and the more you take the more you want....if you really want to be clean then you have to make the decision to just stop and suffer through the pain, it will end it just takes time, we dont get addicted overnight.....hope you make the right decision, many on here have quit cold turkey listen to the advice we know what we are talking about we have lived it and lived through it...shine

onthefence: What's up with that????? I agree  with Vicki:  CALM DOWN....

oh I can imagine the horrors as I have lived them myself starting as a young child.. molestation rape beatings giving a child up for adoption.. failing health due to drugs.. yes I have lived the nightmare and I too tried to blot it out with drugs and alcohol.. but I had found instead of blotting my past out it kept me a prisoner.. not till I "accepted" help from my shrink was I able to move on..  I'm very sorry on the fence that you also have gone through a hell of being born and not valued.. my elders are all gone now and what is left of my family they too are dieing.. life is what we make of it..
sometimes I'm jealous of the peps in 3rd world countries even though they are dirt poor missing limbs they have a joy about them and a gratefulness for life.. I wish you the very best and I truly mean this.. lesa

What you describe is the cycle of addiction. The more you take, the more you NEED.
Your body will beg for the medicine. Your brain wants it.

You need to stop the cycle. The only way to do that is to stop taking the percocet. It's not comfortable for sure. But,as 10356 says,it's a hell we have to go through to get to a better life. It's horrible. It's very said. It's the way it is.

There are meds that can help. Your 62 yrs old. Are you in good health? You should call your doctor. He/she can prescribe some very helpful medicines to get you through withdrawals. Just call and be honest.

All the best!
Vicki

some never had those things you speak of to begin with, (joy, money, family etc.) or it was worse before pain pills, (possibly using alcohol to blackout every day from 12 years of age  on due to horrors some couldn't even imagine, then while being on pills can actually halfway control ones drinking, it all depends on how you look at it.
glass half -full or -empty so to speak,
drug use is never the answer or the solution ,but for some it is better than their actual life
its just a fact of life.

the ppl i really feel for are the ones in third world countries that have to suffer , and dont even have the choice to numb themselves like those in the spoiled rich countries....

I would rather burn in hell for a few weeks then to live my whole life in a nightmare of active addiction.. while active we have one thing on our mind.. pills/drugs. how many. when do I take my next one. you can not make plans unless you think of the pills first.. waking up sick.. being numb.. loosing sight of what brings us joy.. causing hurts as we are so self involved.. loosing our homes or family's our money our respect for ourselves our very lives... this to me is a hell of our own making..

Im sorry but I dont agree either. The worst part will be over. Cant say when but it will get better. The percocet is just making alot of things worse for you.It wont be easy for you but im sure well worth it. Just imagine being able to see the world in color again.

Nope, i don't agree. I'm going on day three, and while I have had some symptoms, I haven't had anything that made me want to cut my leg off. I'm just saying this has been my experience. Now, my back is killing me, but I think that is just the way it's gonna be right now.   I've accepted my fate, and I know life is just gonna suck for a while. Good Luck, and call your doctor if they get too bad.

no I do not agree.. the pain last only for so long after you quit. there are ways of helping to quell the rls so it is not so bad..  but the struggle while taking the percs continues indefinitely.. I wish you the very best.. stick around and read the forum. many have come off these and now do not get the hurting legs our the runny nose.. a couple of weeks of pain is worth getting off them.. lesa

Hi!  There may not be anything to stop the WD completely, but there are things you can do to help, for sure!  It seems like a lot of people come on here, and they would like to just stop them.  The thing is, when you abuse opiates, you will pay for it down the road.  There is no way around that!  However, you can do some things to make it a little easier.  I had the HORRIBLE leg pain.  So bad...I would cry and sit in the bath tub!  I bought some OTC hyland's leg cramps and drank apple juice, because it has lots of potassium in it.  Bananas didn't help as much as AJ did.   Also, wal mart has a mag/cal/zinc supplement that helps A LOT!  I was like you, and I didn't think anything would help, but those did a little bit.  At least enough to tolerate it!  Have you thought about talking to a doctor?
