Can anyone shed some positive light

Can anyone shed some positive light

Can someone please put my mind at some ease.  I have been a big drinker for about 10 years of my life.  It became uncontrollable for the last two years.  My husband and I recently (13 days to be exact) entered a alcohol program and are determined to beat this disease.  I have nooooo desire whatsoever to drink.  I had a physical done 1 week ago and my worst nightmare came true.  They called back stating they want to re-run tests in another week.  My Potassium level is at 5.2 and my liver enzymes (AST) are at 65.  The nurse said these are MILDLY elevated, but I cant help but go to the worst and think I have cirrhosis.  Can these numbers, at these levels, mean cirrhosis?  They also want to run Hepatitis B, C.  I do know when liver enzymes are elevated, this is standard procedure.  Please, I know I did damage, I'd be a fool to think otherwise, but is there anything that can be shared to eleviate some of the unbearable anxiety?  A week is along time to wait in the dark.
Thanks.

On a positive note.  The liver as an amazing ability to regenerate and heal itself.  So you may need to be very mindful in the future but if you give it time it may start to heal itself.

Totally agree with thursday's response.

When i use to drink...I drank ALOT..at least one liter of whiskey/day. And still want more.
But on the positive side...even though I did do all that my liver enzymes were always "slightly" elevated...but I was told the same thing. The liver can repair itself if you stick to abstinence. Seeing you are in treatment that is a huge PLUS..also if this has scared you then I am assuming you will want to stay clean. The more you drink the worse it will become. The Dr also almsot always checks the hep...normal procedure at least I think when the enzymes are elevated. Just a precaution. I am sure all is just fine however, I noticed at least with me that once I heard that all was just fine-I thought to myself well...no damage done so I guess I can continue on. Doesn't work that way. So when you get the results back..feel blessed and continue on your road to sobriety. Also ALOT of medications mixed with alcohol will ruin the liver as well. That is why so many ask if you are a drinker, or the bottle will say if you drink alcohol speak to your Dr before starting this medication. Hope this was of some help.
Best of luck

How's this for light? True story too seriously...no bull ****!! When I was younger, my mom got diagnosed with a liver disease, shoot I can recall the name I was young, probaly about 8-9 years old, well she started getting high when I was about 14 (that i know of anyways, don't know if it was before then) She stopped when I was about 18....they told my mom when she was first diagnosed she had nomore then 10 years to live, they put her on steriods and all types of medicines that made her go kinda nuts, noone wanted to be around her or get in her way!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well...she's been clean for 3 years now, she has a job, health insurance now, and whatever. She hasn't had any liver flares in a while.....so next doctor appt they did some test.....THE DISEASE IS GONE!!!!!! So prayer can do alot for someone!! My mom is a christian now, and maybe it's not even that, but the fact that she decided to get herself out of the predicament she was in, and her liver healed itsself!!! IT IS POSSIBLE!!!! So calm down, take a breather, it could be nothing. I remember when I was 17 they told me I had an abnormal pap???? You want to talk about freaked and stressed!!!!!!!!! You'll be okay honey, God is right beside you, just let him know that you know that he's there (LOL that sounded funny :) Keep Strong....your in my prayers!!!!!

Usually mildly elevated enzymes are no big deal provided you take the right steps to correcting yourself. I have had high liver enzymes on a number of occasions, especially if tested after a long weekend or after any type of cocaine abuse. The good news is every time they read as high, I completly quit drinking and any other drugs and they returned to normal. Also many people take a supplement called milk thistle or silymarin and that helps to protect your liver.
