Can doctors really be this bad?

WTF is wrong with doctors?  I have been suffering from chronic stomach problems for quite some time and each time I go to my doc he tells me to continue taking Prevacid.  Prevacid is a Proton Pump Inhibitor which means it tells your stomach to quit producing acid to break down food...which means undigested food passes into your large and small intestine..the food sits there...and bad bacteria begins to develop...which causes MORE STOMACH PROBLEMS.  I just found this out on in the GI forum here.   WTF!!!!   I want to go kick his azz right now.  My abdomin hurts so bad right now that I have no choice but to take a hydro.  This same doc told me that the asprin I was taking was causing this...I was only taking 2 Excedrin a day and I'm not able to tollerate ibuprofen.

I've been to this doc several times with the same complaint and not once did he ever mention this could be a problem and he keeps giving me hydros.  Until tonight I was getting SCARED that I may have stomach cancer.  I actually quit taking the Prevacid two days ago and Im still having stomach pain but I guess it takes time for your gut to get back to normal.  I know there are doctors that do lots of good for people...I hope I find one soon.

With all this happening I'm only at 3 tabs a day but believe me...I really want to take more.  It seems just when I start to see the light I get knocked back down again.

The hydros are going to worsen the problem without a doubt.  ANY temporary relief you may get from them are not going to be worth it in the end.

If you haven't already...ask your doc for a referral to see a GI specialist...who will order the appropriate testing to get to the bottom of your problems.  In a way...your doc COULD be right about the Excedrin being partially a culprit.  2 Tabs a day doesn't SEEM like a lot, but if you were taking it consistently for a while...it very well could have at least added to the issues.

Get to a GI doc and PLEASE try ASAP to cut the hydros...tapering if you need to.  That is the worst thing.  There are a bazillion different meds for stomach issues...but you need to be properly diagnosed first to find the right one.  I'm sure when that happens...you'll be amazed at how you will improve.

Best of luck to you!

I am sorry you are having so much pain..my suggestion is to defiantely go to another dr that specializes in your problem..Do you know what is causing this pain in your stomach? As eagle said..Please be on guard with the vicodin..how long have you been taking them? i wouldn't think they are very good for your stomach either but I understand that you are in pain..it could potentially make it worse though..good luck and let us know how you are doing..

I am suprised your doc prescribed hydros for stomach problems! I think they would only make it worse.  Acetomenaphin can eat away at your stomach lining.

Similar problem on my end...the proton pump inhibitors shut down every third acid producing plant in your stomach. Unfortunately that isnt always the fix. My GP had me on that stuff for years - I finally got back to my Gastro specialist and he took me off all of that and put me on protonix...the protonix actually fixes the problems caused earlier by excess acid.......keep your guard up!!
