Can one get euphoria from Methadone?

P.A.W.S. = Post Accute Withdrawal Syndrome. Symptoms that a person experiences AFTER the initial accute withdrawals have subsided. Symptoms can include severe lethagy and horrible depression among other things.

hey did any of you catch the news this morning about the increasing rate of methadone deaths?? So tragic..It's slowly getting out..but not nearly fast enough..My husband has a friend at work who's kid bought a methadone pill for $25 and he died..just happened 2 days ago...he was 17.

They also created the absolute worst drug methamphetamine..I didn't know they created methadone.  Figures.

Actually, it was a Japanese chemist that first synthesized methamphetamine (though Hitler DID recieve daily injectins of methamphetamine from his personal physition).
Also Methamphetamine itself is not the "worst drug", it DOES have some legitimate medical uses (narcolepsy, for example). It is ILLICIT production of crystal meth that makes the drug bad; people use corrosive poisons in makeshift labs to produce it. That is the stuff that is so nasty.
Google "Krokodil" (homemade desomorphine popular in russia) THAT stuff makes illicit crystal meth look like lite beer, in terms of damage to the body.

dont take it if its to get off drugs...its is only a worse situation than your in now...methadone is the king of withdrawals and PAWS...if you have other options, please look into them first...do your research too...and if you have never taken it, just remember this...one pill can kill, and it has...there are people that took just 1 methadone pill and never woke up.  i lost a close and dear friend to methadone on dec 5th, not from an overdose, but from methadone toxicity...it can be a severely dangerous drug, especially if not taken properly.  and if you ever have plans of getting off it in the future because your goal is to be drug free, methadone is NOT for you, even if it was prescribed for pain, i think there are other meds that are much more effective from methadone, i never got much relief from it, i just liked the way it made me feel, and once you start liking that, your in trouble hun,...you may want to do some research before you even think about taking it...do ALOT of reading and research...just google methadone and read the results...

the way the meth Dr. explained it to me (after i had been on it for a month) was this..because it is long acting it stays in your system for @ 36 or more hours..so your body metabolizes 80% then the next day you take your same dose w/ the 20% still there and it steadily increases until finally it plateaus.And it works the same way in the reverse when you try to wean down..2mg doesn't seem like much until a week later..am i making any sense?

Methadone was developed by Nazi chemists when their opium sources were cut off during WW2 - leave it to them! The w/d's are especially bad because the serum half life is so long. You can be done w/d'ing from lortabs before the methadone from last dose is all out of your system - even if you quit both at the same time. But it also kills pain for a longer period - that was what the Nazi's had in mind. Poor trade off from my standpoint....

yeah, I was scared of it, at the most I took 20mg a day, but that's my point even at that and it's been 2 weeks and I'm still feeling this, that's just wrong, but hey atleast the junkie's aren't stealing.  I didn't even know they gave it for pain untill last year. I was helping an old friend who was dieing and that's what they gave him.  So you where taking that much for pain?  Your sure right the only reason to take it is if your terminal. How long does lortab withdrawl take?

Yes, you can still get a buzz from methadone....its not a narcotic  antagonist and not a reuptake inhibitor .......if it is prescribed for pain the dose is usually clinically too low - even for pain - but you may catch a buzz from a dose . Heroin addicts usually start at 30-40 mg and most go  higher before they begin a slow taper - tapering around 3 mg per drop per week.....some veterans get as high (or higher ) than 120 mg for maintainence dose......window between a good high and death is way to small - many methadone users have been through a clinic and when they get it on the streets they go to the original clinic dose from when they were using H heavily....they od easily in this manner.

In my own opinion and experience..methadone is the worst drug you can get...if your dying of terminal illness..and it helps your pain..then go for it..i saw 100's of people in the "clinic' that wouldn't ever even think of comming off it because of the w/ds..I have never done heroin and when you have them tell you...they would go off heroin 10 times c.t before methadone...thats scary..like i said I had no choice.i am thankful and lucky to be alive. i was on 65 mg for @ a year..tried like h3ll to get help to get off the damn pills..that was the governments solution..they will pay for people to got to meth clinics but not to get off ****...pi$$es me off......

ok, I'm nosy and looked at your profile, that cross is so funny. How do scottish boys get to be bubba's?  I have back pain also, just had surgery, not much better, but a little, better enough to get off some of this stuff.  Sucks when the remedy becomes the problem.  Yeah, I know the whole it's all in your head, push through the pain, yadda, yadda.  The doc told me that two weeks ago, he's full of it and hands that stuff out like candy, or use to, one reason I'm quiting, to push through the pain, I'm sick and tired of fighting them to get it.

It makes a big difference what matt got it prescribed for. Addiction or pain. Just realize this, it's the longest withdrawl for any narcotic. It may not be the worst but it's like the energizer bunny, it just keeps on tickin' and just keep on kickin. Many never make it off . Terminal pain is something different "Methadone, there's no future in it." all the best

What a nightmare, I can't even imagine,  I've done a H habit cold, but that's just a few days.  I was in treatment with a girl along time ago who was withdrawing from it and man was she sick, swore I'd never take it, but I was so sic of the lortab, I kinda forgot.  Your right, I can't imagine why they give that for w/d of anything.

I've been taking lortab heavily for about five years and then like a dumb *** went to methadone to try and take the load off my liver when I found out I had hep c.  Hugh mistake, your right that is the worst drug ever, probably why it's so cheap and for H addicts.  I will say weening down is the way to go, I haven't run screaming out of my house to the doc, or er, or score, which I did last year after 20 years clean from junk.
I did start some lexapro I had in the cabinet and it's helped with the depression, but not the sleeping and rls. What a mess.  This is a great site, I was feeling mighty alone and miserable. So thanks to you all. Matt don't take the methadone.

I agree about methadone 100% it is a horrible drug..i went cold turkey off 65 mg. and it will be 2 years this aug 1. I have heard people say they have gotten high off it..I personally never did. All it did was keep me (who was hooked on painkillers and heroin addicts from having w/ds..)I felt a burst of energy for the first few days and that was it..please get off it..Bad bad drug..I was in severe withdrawals for about 6 weeks.Not pretty. I had no choice but to do that but i would have never willingly done that to myself.i am scarred for life..why are you taking it?

I am 3 weeks off the methadone. And still having some w/d's from it. I would never tell anyone to take it. It has to be the worse thing on the market. There are better meds to use...

Hi Grace no worries thought it was a bit strange thanks, unfortunately no i havnt 7years straight not one dose missed,  its priorety no1 sad huh,  yes the lack of sleep/anxiety is a real kicker if only we could just get through it without that makes the days harder but have to keep positive and busy , i know i cant quite see the end yet really as its just begun for me but you guys make it easier and supportive though,

Mr Lucky i guess your right we definatly do get something from it i guess im just used to it though, and well now im starting to realise that even more tapering down just how much i was feeling good, i always associated high though with like nodding out, stoned type thing but yes i definately had my noddy moments not for long and it definately kept a nice armour round me to life...

Sure you can get a Euphoria from it, depending. It always felt good to me, well most of the time. If you are taking it to replace another narcotic such as in a meth clinic, In practice you don't get a high. Many addicts who take it get a buzz and I wouldn't have stayed on it for so many years if I wasn't getting something good from it.  Be carefull with this stuff, it's very addictive and can easily be a killer.all the best

I think he's info seeking? Hey I've read some of your post, Have you ever kicked the methadone completely? And if so how long does it last?  I was reading the anxiety post and that's exactly where I am. It's be easier if I knew there was an end in site.
