Can you help me with methadone detoxing?

Hey y'all my name is Kevin and I've been an opiate abuser for close to 5 years now. Just recently I've stopped using illegal drugs and "switched" to methadone at a clinic that is over an hour away from where i live. I've been on methadone for about 3 months now (tapered down to 18mg) and I'm really tired of driving to the clinic every day (especially since gas prices are at their peak). My main reason for quitting is that I've discovered that methadone isn't helping me at all... it is just prolonging my recovery process.  I'm now going on 4 days clean and hating every second of my day. I really want to go through with quitting methadone cold turkey, but i find myself questioning whether I should return to the clinic or not... all day long, because I'm in so much pain right now. Do any of you guys have any tips that could help this task get any easier. I read the Thomas detox recipe and I have absolutely no access to valium or similar medication. Thanks

hi

i dont mean to be rude, but did you get in your car to score everyday? if so maybe you should look at the fact that if you drove to score you can drive to help your recovery. i kow it is difficult but try and put it into perspective. the same amount of petrol would of been used.  good luck with whichever way you choose to go.

I wish I could help sweetie, I drive 2 hours to my clinic but fortunatly I only have to go once a month.  I view methadone different than most, and feel that a person should not taper to quickly but rather use it as a tool  to get their lives back in order and only THEN begin the difficult task of SLOWLY detoxing. Others will disagree and they are entitled, that's the beauty of tthis forum.  Good luck to you darlin..I wish you the best!
