I never had any withdrawals.  If you have a doctor prescribing as you do (this isn't even something drug dealers bother to sell... that in itself should tell you it's a different animal!) when  you are ready to come off, he'll gradually decrease your dose.  I wouldn't think of it as a mood altering drug.  It stabilizes the brain to the point that it should be in one who isn't depressed or anxiety ridden!   Think of it like you would if you had to take blood pressure medication or something.  You can't get high of off it!!!!  It will though, bring your brain to the point where you'll feel the natural optimistic "highs" of a happy person.  It's been a god send for so many people... even addicts.  Perhaps especially us!

And Sarah, thanks for asking!  I'm feeling a MILLION times better despite an AA meeting with a speaker who bragged SO MUCH about his movie stardom I wanted to puke (on him!).  Didn't recognize him.  I'm sure if Brad Pitt had a problem and needed to refer to work....he'd call it WORK!!! Like most of the known celebrities I've heard in LA.  This guy was IRRITATING AS ****!!!!! Needless to say, I couldn't bring myself to share.  He seemed nice enough, aside from the huge EGO (which coincedently he talked about, saying EGO is an anocronysm (sp?) for "Easing God Out!"  True, perhaps.  I wanted to raise my hand and say, "so why are you so engulfed in it???")  Of course part of me is jealous, the other part very annoyed that he probably made people feel worse about themselves.  That's why we're recommended to share in a "general way!"  Okay, I'm working on tolerance.  :)

celexa is a SSRI anti-depressant. it isn't addictive at all, but after taking it for a period of 8 months or longer if you want to get off of it you would need to taper off gradually. your body after a long period of time grows accustom to it and there is a dependence created. It is a safe and effective anti depressant for most people and not to many ppl have to worry about going cold turkey on it or abusing it so if you are struggling with depression and your dr. thinks this may be effective for you I would givei it a shot.

I don't think you need to worry about it. I understand that your afraid of pills and thats a healthy fear to have but if your doc has found you to have depression and thinks this might help you then why not try it and see? If it doesn't help you then you can always try another one. I had tried two before I got on one that I did see some improvement with. I stopped taking it when I got pregnant (although it was deemed safe during pregnancy I wasn't comfortable and opted to take nothing) after when I wasn't pregnant I should have gotten back on it again but instead discovered opiates when my son was a newborn and thought they were the answer to my depression. The rest has been a blur of pain and addictive hell. Damn shoulda stuck to the zoloft ;) Ok all jokes aside, give it a shot and worse case scenario you don't notice improvement or some other reason you just try something else. There are no horrible wds. I stopped cold turkey and had no ill effects although I believe I was supposed to taper off. Point is they are nothing like the opiates in stopping and they could really help you so why not try it? You got nothing to lose except your depression.

Hi "love!"  I was on Celexa for depression and a bit of anxiety.  It isn't in my experience at all addicting.   It was one of the few psychiatric drugs I had a positive response to!  My dad is a doctor as well and he has prescribed this to his patients as well.   I also have several friends who have been on it.  Haven't ever heard anything negative, yet.  Best of luck to you! I hope it helps!

Many on here have taken an ad med for awhile and it has helped.  It usually takes a bit for it to start working.  If you are having trouble with depression right now i would go for it.  Celexa is used alot.
