Change my taper to Suboxone?

Change my taper to Suboxone?

This past Friday I saw a doctor in an Opiate Detox out-patient program.  He knows I am tapering from Opana ER (on 25mg 3 times a day).  He suggested I go on Suboxone (what they usually use inpatient) and get off the Opana ER.  Then he would taper me from that.  What do you think about this plan?  Does this doctor understand the high dose I am still on?  I have tapered from 40 mg Opana ER to 25 mg Opana ER so far, so I have made progress on my own!  I am not tempted to ever take more than I should bc I get no "high" from Opana personally.  I am praying to be down to 20 mg Opana ER (3 times a day) by Christmas, and 15 mg Opana ER (3 times a day) by Jan. 11, my next appt.

Thanks so much,
Marie

Hi,

While Suboxone can be helpful I don't think that your usage is extreme enough to now introduce a maintenance drug. Time and time again I have seen people go on Suboxone and say they will taper right off and 3 years later they are stuck.

You are doing so well on your taper. Why not continue?

This is just my opinion. I suggest if you decide to go the Suboxone route that you do research on it. Weight the pros and the cons.

I wish you the best and I'm glad you came here to talk about it.
