Chantix and Norco Abuse

Hey everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile, but truth be told, I relapsed...got a bottle of 140 Norco's and finished them in 6 days....with this in mind, I went to my Dr. to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking.  Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!!

I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!!  AND...I'm not smoking either!!

Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!!  Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?  Folks, I can't explain how normal I feel!!!  It shocked the heck out of me, to the point that I said out loud...what's the catch??  I'm not worried about my next dose...couldn't care less about it....even went as far as to call my doctor and left a message saying I'm done taking the Norco....

PLEASE NOTE:  I'm not a Doctor nor am I saying that Chantix will take away your withdrawls/craves for narcotics, I'm just saying for ME, it's a damn miracle.....

I know this is an old thread, but looks like people are still posting to it. I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh? And I am not a fan of the way they taste anymore at all. So, I have heard horrible stories about the side effects of Chantix, how was it for everyone that has used it?? Despite what people say about the side effects, everyone I know that has used it has successfully quit smoking, but I'm nervous about about what they say it does. I have had several people tell me that they have horrible nightmares, have SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, and feel like they are just down right going crazy???

after googling "chantix helped me to quit norco" i found this post. I too believe that the chantix helped me to quit!!!
ive been abusing norco for about 4-5 years!...
i have a running script for 90 10s. i usually have those gone within two weeks and then buy from various sources to get me through the rest of the month.
I have tried to quit them various times throughout the years but the withdrawals and cravings become too much by the second to third day and i always fold. not being able to find them was always the worst!
anyway, i decided to try to quit smoking. i got the chantix and i still smoked for two weeks instead of one. over that time cigarettes seemed to not give me the pleasure that they usually did. when i took my norco i would normally smoke even more than normal...but the smokes were not doing it for me any more. i also noticed that the norco wasn't giving me the "boost" that i normally would get from them. I didn't need to have them to get my day started. so ...i have been off norco and cigarettes for a week now and i'm doing pretty well.
no withdrawals and i only have momentary thoughts of using either one throughout the day. I don't know if its just me, but to have quit both is a miracle to me!
I am a 43 year old male that has smoked since i was 17.
who knows? maybe someone else can give this a try and see if it works for them.
i just don't know if i stop taking the chantix if i will have the strong urges again. i hope not.

Hey everyone,

Just checking in with a status report!  OK, so I went to the pain doctor this morning.  I had 3 injections in my back (Which hurt like an SOB with no sedative...) and I spoke with the Doctor.  I didn't mention the severity of my pill usage, but I DID talk to him about what other options there were instead of Narcotics.  Basically, he said this:  Narcotics are to be used when and only when you're hurting SO bad that you can't make it to the door...lol..if he ONLY knew...

I didn't mention the Chantix angle.  That I'll keep between me and all of you....but the fact of the matter is, I feel great everyone...no side effects...MINIMAL W/D's.  I had RLS mild for 1 night....beyond that, not a damn thing!!

Again Please note:  I am not a doctor...I don't know what the KEY is to my success of not taking pills anymore while using this drug, but I'm almost certain that it has something to do with it....

Either that, or God really REALLY wants me to stay alive to do his work...which btw, Mass on Sunday....  :-)

Oh and finally, I was given a script for Perkoset....I promplty tore it up and threw it away...I'm done!!

Love to all of you who listened to me...and I know I'm not, "Out of the woods just yet"...after care is a big thing and I'm currently seeking a program that'll work for me...all I know is, I've been given a second chance and I'm not screwing it up...

Thats really neat! It really wouldn't be a surprise as many drugs over the years have come to treat other conditions than originally indicated for.

I really do hope you are on to something. The Lord knows we could use all the help in this world to treat this awful illness.

Best of luck to you.

It's the most amazing thing...I think about wanting to take a pill and my brain snaps to attention and says no, I'm done....the ONLY W/D effects I'm having is mild RLS...other than that, I'm feeling ok....we'll see how I do with sleep tonight!

For everyone who is going through something right now....I know you can do it....it's taken me MANY attempts to get THIS far....believe in yourself....believe that a week of pain CAN and WILL be a lifetime of freedom....don't give up....

There has been some theory and speculation that Chantix can also curb alcohol addiction as well as narcotic addiction.
It works on the nicotine receptors which in turn stimulates dopamine which is the reward and pleasure neurochemical.
Hey..if it is helping 2 addictions for you...that's great

Thats great I wonder what chantix has in it?  I will look it up.  Wellbutrin is helping my depression I believe and right now  I'm getting a runny nose and some chills and hot flashes.  I believe in Welbutrin also
