Clonidine

I'm going on a trip and I won't have my methadone for 3 days. My doc gave me Clonidine to stop the nausea.  Will that work?

I agree with Gnarly...my highest, and I mean HIGHEST, dose was 45 mgs a day, it was usually 30-40 mgs a day, and I dropped 5mgs at a time at the beginning and it was pretty darn rough. I refused to go CT, I was deadset on tapering, and I think I made it harder on myself. I did the taper, and looking back now, I realize I was in withdrawal for probably 2 months longer than I needed to be. I did a 6wk taper off methadone. And now I know I should've either done CT or done a slow and steady taper. A taper that would have taken at least a year. I'm happy that I'm done now, but I did have a hard time. But I will say, the clonidine helped me immensely! It gave me the sleep I had been longing for. You just have to take it at the right time...which was 2 hours before bedtime for me. I know that once you get home you wil be back to your regular regimen, but when you decide you've had enough of this evil crap, come back here and we will help you. Talk is usually cheap...but not here my friend!!! Talk...it got me thru the hardest time in my life. And it can do the same for you!! Good luck!

Down to 70 mgs today. I've been waiting until about 4 pm to take a dose. Just wandering if I should divide in 2 dose because i feel so anxious around noon. Be down to 60 tomorrow. Is cutting down by 10mg the right way? Should i be spreading it out more?

Hi...well at first I would say that methadone has a 36hr half life so acute withdrawal will not set in until the 3rd day if you do not have any it will get progressive worst day one will be uncomfortable day 2 will have a lot of anxiety sweets and day 3 it will hit with force  a lot has a lot to due with how high your dose is how long you been on it and your age I would not recommend this fill us im on the dose and how long you been on it............................Gnarly.......................

I know that when I took clonidine during my second detox I didn't vomit.  I felt like vomiting but I didn't.  I took OTC Gravol.
Why are you going without your methadone?  I'm guessing you have to go to a clinic to get it?
I'm not sure.  Hopefully Gnarly our methadone expert will jump in here and help you out.
Best wishes

Wow Jeni I'm not sure.  The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure.  I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings.  My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea.  It worked really well.  Sorry I can't be of more help.  Hang on for a while.  I'm guessing someone in here will know for sure about the nausea part :-)
