Cocaine And Pregnancy
My friend recently told me that she dipped her cigarette into cocaine and smoked it. I didn't like the fact that she did it but to make matters worse, she's pregnant and was pregnant when she did it. She's only 15 weeks along but I was wondering how this could effect the pregnancy or the child. It was only one time but I'm still worried that there could be side effects. She tells me that it didn't do anything for her, like she didn't get high or anything, it just numbed her mouth for about 10 minutes, but I'd like to know if it could have done more.
I really hope you get help. The unborn child DESERVES and NEEDS way BETTER than this. Drugs of any kind should not be taken during pregnancy unless it is RX'd by her doctor. I pray this baby is born healthy...and if she is keeping it (not putting up for adoption) that she straightens up before the baby is here and that it's not too late. Sasha...I'm just curious but are you the friend? It's ok if you are ... we are here to help and support even if it's you or a friend.

Thank you everybody for your comments. I appreciate your concerns. I am working on my friends to get her to realize that doing these things to herself is not good for her or the baby. So far it has been good, She hasn't done any drugs in the past 2 days and I know this because I have been with her continuously for both of them. I know that the cocaine was a one time thing for sure because she had never done it before that night and it is very hard to get a hold of from where we live. And she wasn't that big on pills before she got pregnant and I really doubt that she does them a lot now. She tells me everything and I'm always with her literally whenever she is not home. She doesn't have a license so it's not like she can go out on her own to get them and I'm the only person that she hangs out with. So thanks again, And I will take your advise and try to use it for the better.

And if you or your friend are in fact doing that stuff with a child in your belly, that is just horrible and if you or she does not know the dangers, please see above and get the help you need.

i'm also sorry if i sounded harsh, and normally i don't get upset, but this is important for that child's health. i just copied this below and i hope you inform your friend of the risks involved with using cocaine while pregnant.
The following are characteristics of cocaine exposed infants:
Prematurity
Lowerbirthweight, shorter
Smaller head circumference
A piercing cry, which is apparently indicative of neurological dysfunction
Lower Apgar score
Irritability and hypersensitivity. The newborn shoots from sleep to screaming and is inconsolable.
Poorfeeding
High respiratory and heart rates
Tremulousness
Startling responses
Poor sleep patterns
Significantly lower scores on two of the dimensions measured by the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scales (BNBAS): 1) scales related to interactive abilities, and 2) scales related to organizational responses to environmental stimuli. Infants who perform poorly on the BNBAS are considered high risk, especially if performance is poor in more than one of the behavioral dimensions.
Inability to respond to caregiver. These cocaine exposed infants are largely unable to respond to the human voice and face and are unable to interact with others.
An increased risk of malformations of the genito-urinary tract. Dr. Chasnoff recommends that these infants should have routine ultra-sound evaluations of their kidneys in order to rule out such defects.
There is evidence that the use of cocaine shortly before birth can be associated with cerebral infarction (stroke) which damages the brain of the newborn. A CT scan of the brain may be indicated when both the infant and mother test highly positive for cocaine at the time of birth and when there are additional indications to suggest a stroke might have occurred.
A greater incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In Dr. Chasnoff's sample, 15% of the infants died of SIDS, more than triple that of heroin or methadone exposed infants.
Sleep pattern abnormalities associated with apnea and deep sleep, which may be associated with the greater incidence of SIDS
Visual abnormalities which may be associated with retinopathy or damage to the iris. This is thought to be related either to actual damage caused by the cocaine and/or the premature birth associated with such use.

OMG...are you kidding me with this. Listen, your friend is not too bright to think that any other those things are ok. And again...with or without a baby inside your stomach feeding from the nutrients that SHE is giving it. It is and I am ashamed of that poor girl. SHe needs help and I am sure doesn't think she does.

Your friend for sure needs help!!! I prob. shouldnt even comment on this because it is such a touchy thing for me... Does she realize what the hell she is doing to this poor child.. I adopted my little girl when she was just a few days old and she was born addicted to coke...and the terriable things she went threw was just aweful and to think a women could do that to a poor baby.. Im sorry if i sound like a ***** but to do that to a little baby and yes they will take the baby away as soon as it is born if she dont get her **** togather..and thats if the baby lives!!!!! Please try and get her to come on here or go get help any place she can!! Your a good friend to care!!
if she said it only numbed her mouth, than she dipped the coke on the filter of the smoke and did not actually smoke it, but who knows if she did. this is so irratating as how a women can do this to an innocent child. if she is around coke, i imagine she is doing it sometimes too, obviously if she is dipping it in her smoke. she is sniffing percocets too??? im sorry, but this is disgusting.using cocaine can cause birth deffects in early pregnancy and this child deserves a fair chance. so she just felt like bragging to you she was dipping her smoke in coke and smoking it????
Your friend is playing you a fool. She is full of ***@**** she is snorting pills, but not very often......bull !! Now dipping ciggs into cocaine to numb her mouth.....PLEASE. I am not putting you down, but you can't believe the garbage she is feeding you. Your friend needs HELP. Next she will be telling you she is smoking crack, but .....she didn't inhale it......she just thought the pipe was pretty.
