Codeine addiction

Codeine addiction

My fiance is trying to get off of codeine. He took between 10-20 (750-1000mg per pill) a day for the last 3 years and has been taking them for around 10 years total. He's on day 1 of going cold turkey. (for the last 2 weeks he has tapered down to no more than 5 a day) We are trying to figure out the best way to help with withdrawls. Ideas to help with pain. If he should take benzos to get him through. If on day 2 taking a half or 1 to help him with withdrawl (withdrawal) sets him back by feeding addiction. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! He is 30 years old and is ready to be free and clean from them. I love him dearly and if you can also give me advice on the best things to do for him in this time, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

That codeine dose sounds very high.

Here in the UK at least you would normally be looking at a max dose per tablet of 60 mg, normally 12 or 15 ... are you sure it is not 1000 mg of something else? In other words, what exactly is he taking?

I would be very nervous of giving any advice if he is taking 20g of codeine a day.

Could you please help? I'm taking between 300 - 400mg of codeine a day, im 25 years old, I used to be 15 stone and very proud of my apperance and after a year of taking the drug I'm down to 12 stone and finding it very difficult to leave the house, let alone live any kind of normal life, its affecting every aspect of my day to day life even something so simple as a haircut has become a major chore without the affects of codeine I'm taking Solpadeine Max x30 12.8mg once a day. I don't want to involve my G.P or any other professional, and would prefer to beat my secret hell alone. Please! Do you have any advice on how to do this?

Go to the top of this page...click on the orange ask a question button...cut and paste your request and post it on a new thread.  This one is pretty old and I am afraid your need will be missed.
