Codiene based Cough Syrup Addiction

I feel so great when I found this web site because there is no similar web site in my living country. I have been on Codiene based cough syrup for the past 10 years. I tried many time to quit it. Last time, I stop to take the syrup for 1 year, but I fail again. Now I want to control the quantity of it. Also I want to take tablet instead of syrup. The composition of the syrup is each 5ml contains 4mg Promethazine HCI, 9mg Codeine Phosphate and 8mg Ephedrine HCI. Each bottle of the syrup is 120 ml, I usually take one or two bottle of it.  In my country, tablet with single composition is available. Which one/two of the tablet can replace the syrup?

I am sorry you did not get an answer. First, it is a holiday weekend here and it is very quiet. Second, that medication is not readily available here in the US. I think it would be in your best interest to visit your doctor and be honest with him. Let him decide what medication is best for you and he can set you up on a taper plan.

Why would you replace one type of codeine with another?If you really want to quit,you should taper or go cold turkey and not take any form of codeine.

I addicted to Codiene based cough syrup for the past 10 years. In this period, I had tried many times to quit the syrup. Once I go cold turkey, it was success for one year.

Last month, my mother was past and I feel very very sad of it. I start to take the cough syrup. I cannot control my depression if I go cold turkey now. But I really want to change my life and do something for my mother. I want to make a plan to taper.

In daily, I go out and visit the pharmacy. After I take a bottle of  120ml cough syrup, I meet the injurious friends and play tv game. Since I cannot keep large amount of the cough syrup at home,. I need to go the pharmacy everyday. Day by day, the syrup contol my daily pattern, I repeat to take the syrup, meet the injurious friends, play tv game, again and again. I am very very tired of it.

If I replace the form from syrup to tablet, I can keep monthly amount, I can start to taper and leave the disturbance from the injurous friends.

Now, I need to know the composition of the syrup. Usually, I take one/two 120ml bottle of the cough syrup. Each bottle contains:
- 216mg codeine phosphate
- 192mg ephedrine HCI
- 96mg promethazine HCI

These tablets are available in my country:
- codeine phosphate tab 30mg
- ephedrine HCI tab 30mg
- promethazine HCI tab 25mg

That means one bottle of the cough syrup contains:
- 7 codeine phosphate tabs
- 6 ephedrine HCI tabs
- 4 promethazine HCI tabs

My question is: Is it necessary to take 3 kind of the tabs, or two , or only one?

Mate, let's break it down for you shall we.

Codeine, is an opioid analgesic, this is probable what gives you the warmth feeling that radiates from your stomach. It is also the principal addictive substance in PCE cough syrups. It is however, the most devastating.

Ephedrine, is the principal ingredient for making meth. It is the upper in this narcotic mixture. Without it, you'll feel the drowsy effect of Promethazine and  Codeine more.

Forget Promethazine, it is an anti-histamine and suppresses your central nervous system like codeine, but you don't need it to get a fix.

Just a word of advice though, you are playing a dangerous *** game if you think having pills at home will taper down intake. From my experience it is much harder to control when you have the substance sitting in a cupboard just waiting to be popped. I remember starting with 5 a day, and it rapidly went up to 15-20 a day just to get a fix. Wasn't easy getting off man, just not worth the effort.

So, to sum up, don't do what you are about to do, replacing sizzurp with codeine and ephedrine pills. I have abused both extensively, and pills are FAR worst with a lesser kick.
