.25 is a fairly small dose.  I guess you were taking one daily?  Or was it as needed or more then once a day?  If you took them as needed like maybe once a week or so I would just quit taking them.  If you take them once a day I would split the pill take half then take the half pill every other day then just quit.  Xanax is more potent mg vrs mg then other benzos but it depends a lot on how regularly you take them.  I really think Xanax is the worst of the Benzos.  The short time it lasts and the "WOW" feeling you get combine for a lot of people abusing them.  If you ever have to deal with anxiety again I would suggest buspar to see if it works.  If not then a different Benzo like Valium and then only take it as needed.  Never daily.  I don't know why there are still doctors telling patients to use benzos on a daily basis.

8mg xanax a day> seizure> restless body syndrome>  8 months of being periodically "electrocuted"> lessening seizure like activity>periods of "going insaine".

Today>Chronic pain in left leg, partially paralyzed left side of face.

All prescribed by a "doctor"

do you have a history of seizures?
i would have to agree with ambbam, i have detoxed of benzos a few times, the only time i ever had a problem was when i was detoxes ct off xanax, methadone, and alcohol
even during that time, i only had one seizure scare, and i was on a very high dose

I personally do not think you are in any danger of siezures...like i said, i was taking a dangerously high amount and NOT for the right reason...for 5 years!! that is why I had the siezure. I think you will be okay...talk to your doctor about all of your concerns..I have only had one siezure because of it, and that was on day 4 i think...you are well past that part i i believe anyway...but you can never be to safe when it comes to benzos...def.talk to your doctor!!!

please be very careful coming off the benzo's it can be very dangerous, talk to your doctor about a taper plan I stopped c/t because I did not know any better, I took 0.5 mg one time a night to help with sleep and didn't know I was addicted until I just stopped taking them, please be very careful as benzo's are the hardest drugs to w'd from and the symptons will last up to a year or longer, for a while you will feel good like you are finally over w/d's and then all of  a sudden the symptons will hit you again out of no where, and as you know the w/d symptons are very scary, heart palpitations, chest tightness, blood pressure will sky rocket, nausea, rls, vomiting,no sleep, depression, uncontrolable anger, crying for no reason, memory loss, speech problems, fatigue, the list goes on and on,but don't give up because these symptons will go away it just takes time if you have any questions please feel free to ask me as I have done a lot of research on this very dangerous drug, there is a lot the doctors don't tell you that they don't want you to know.\

0.25 mgs of xanax a day is not dangerous to ct...u may want to go every other day for a few days...that is the lowest prescribed dose available...if this is for sure ur daily dose..perhaps flushing and getting valerian root or melatonin for sleep may be the route to go..it is hard to taper from a dose so low..keep posting

true benzos are not to be messed up, opiates withdrawals you feel like youre dying and wish you could die to ease the pain, but with benzis and alcohol you can actually die..i agree that talking with your psychiatrist/doctor whoever prescribed the xanax is a good idea before stopping all together, but for you to be on a high dose and to be able to get down to .25mgs is something to be extremely proud of and you will not have anything but minor discomfort at worst from going cold turkey, .25mgs is the lowest mg pill xanax is produced in so its the lowest possible prescribed dose, you dont have to worry about anything life threatening or damaging, its all in your head, talk to your doc he may have some more words of wisdom along with that...what most docs do if you are on a high dose is switch you over to a equivalent dose of diazepam, oxazepam, or another long lasting benzo, those are easier to taper off of..

I do still think you should confer with a doctor before you quit cold turkey...even though like i said i was on a high amount it is still dangerous no matter what...benzos are nothing to mess with.

what dose weree you at before being at .25 and for how long? for the wd's to be lethal it relaly needs to be acold turkey from a very high dose like 8+mgs for over 2years..i had to go to jail for 4 days and had to cold turkey from 8-10mgs xanax daily for a year and 100mgs methadone daily and i lived, nothing life threatening happened, it was by far the worst wd i had ever gone through even during my active using days..it was horrid i was convulsing, shaking violently, and could not stand nor walk, but i lived..and you are all at .25 mgs so i absolutely believe that going cold turkey will only cause minor discomfort definitely on life threatening..you guys will be fine, the mental part will be the hardest to overcome but you will be ok..congratulations on making it down to .25mgs that is a big feat..now you can taper down even over to like .10 mgs or around there or just stop taking it and youll be fine

I have some personal expierence..I was on xanax for 8 years, the last 5 of which I abused them very bad and took up to 20 1mg pills a day. I put myself in detox/rehab and it was a very bad bad expeirence. I had horrible w.d- Vommitting, diareah, shaking,an out of body experience, cold sweats,MAJOR anxiety, heart papatations, low and high bp, and no sleep whatsoever.I also had a terrible, life-threatenining siezure. Although I was on a very high dose, I still wouldn't reccomend quiting cold turkey at all. Talk to your doctor about an anxiety med, and somthing for withdrawls. How long were you on the xanax?? And how many did you take a day? That sort of gives you an idea of how long you will wd,Although every person is different it still gives you an idea of how long it will take. Im no doctor, but I have been through it. I am on day 46 of being clean, and I thank God everyday for giving me another chance. Benzos are not somthing to take lightly even if you are on a small dose. I believe they are very life-threatening..and you need to talk to a doctor and develop a taper plan...like I said-they took me off cold turkey and I had a violent siezure...if I would have done it on my own I would not be here right now. You can do this. We all have faith in you.. if you have ANY questions at all, please feel free to ask me...Good Luck and God Bless.

I don't have any personal experience with any type of benzos. The only knowledge I have about them,I have gotten here,by reading others experiences.I know that you are not supposed to quit benzos cold turkey, you must taper off of them. It's a little slow here right now,but someone will come along who will have a lot more knowledge.I think the best thing for you to do though,is to talk to your doctor, ask questions, and enlist their help with a taper plan...All the best...Kim
