Concerning effects of DPH Abuse and Nausea

by libby714, Apr 04, 2009 07:48PM
I recently (and regretfully) had begun experimenting with using different over-the-counter medications recreationally, first abusing DXM in the form of cold medicines, and then DPH in the form of generic allergy medicine. Last week I had hit a particularly dangerous spell of abuse, consuming DPH four nights in a row in the dosages of 300mg, 500mg, 700mg, and 600mg. A noted side-effect of abusing this drug is extreme dryness of the mouth, I'm assuming because generic Benadryl works by drying the mucus membranes. While I am aware of this consequence, I'm beginning to think I've done lasting bodily harm with my pattern of abuse. Since my last time ingesting (wednesday night) I have had a persisting lack of salivia, and since Friday morning I have been struggling with sudden and debilitating waves of nausea, which continue to affect me.
While I'm aware of the obscurity of this inquery, I'm curious as to whether my stomach sickness is due to my substance abuse, or if it is probably of some unrelated bug - any experiences or insight would be greatly appreciated!

hi. without consulting a competent physician, it would be impossible to assess your condition. these medications are not tested on humans at such high doses for obvious reasons, and the only information from such abuse usually comes from the documentation of overdose cases in the er or morgue. short or long term use of such high doses will cause liver damage and possibly compromise parts of the central nervous system. you may have done permanent damage that will not even become apparent, especially if on the cellular level, until you end up with liver disease or cancer at an early age. i understand this type of chemical abuse is rampant among kids these days because these meds are available without a prescription. what i can't grasp is the mentality required to do something this stupid as the potential repercussions can be lethal. in low enough doses, things like gasoline and carbon monoxide will give you a buzz as well. hopefully you will come to your senses prior to experimenting with things like them. good luck,   gm

hi again. i feel i should apologize for using the word 'stupid' in my previous response as it was a bit harsh. lord knows i've done a lot of stupid things myself in my journey. i've had the opportunity to see the results of the 'robotrip' firsthand and it just kills me to see kids taking anything they can get their hands on to change the way they feel. i also know what it's like to want to be dead every waking moment and be desperate enough to put chemicals in me to stop the pain for just a little while. i've also taken high doses of diphenhydramine, not to get high, but just to sleep during my many attempts at detoxing and i don't recommend it. long term abuse as i stated before most likely will cause organ damage and alter neurological functions. once again, i apologize, and take care,  gm
