Could it be withdrawl??

by JACEM5, Sep 13, 2007 12:43PM
I'm so sorry to keep whining, but another night of no sleep,I feel like I'm losing my mind.Posting here seems to at least temporarily take my mind off things. It's 4am and no sleep again,I tried to sleep at 10 and when I closed my eyes the panic set in,racing thoughts, seeing weird alice in wonderland type visions, trouble breathing.Could it be the lack of morphine even though I'm taking the percocets? And why does it only happen at night?I can nap during the day without these symptoms.Sometimes I feel I'm not taking enough percs, but I'm afraid to take too many then I'll really panic!Thinking Ive overdosed.I'm afraid to take the Ativan,The other night I took 3 10mg Valium and still couldn't sleep. If I walk around the house or outside it helps take my mind off it,so does posting here, but that's not getting me any sleep. After 30yrs or so of perfect health how can I all of a sudden have this many problems.Ive always been one to keep things inside bottled up,but when the panic sets in I'm not thinking of past abuse.Could it be the prolonged use of pain meds finally catching up to me?I'm sorry to keep posting the same old things, but I am DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS!! I am soooo depressed right now it's exhausting. It's almost to the point where I'm ready to close my eyes and say screw it if you want me take me already and stop the suffering.***************************Could it be ive been on the same dose of pain meds so long I'm having withdrawl symptoms? Just a thought.

Have you told you're dr. any of this? You oviously have anxiety and thats not a bad thing there are great medications for that...I just talked to my Dr the other day and I have been on clonipin for 6yrs and I love it it's the only thing that helps...My Dr told me that he thought it was a good drug for me and also that more and more people eveyday are noticing they have anxiety (he's a dr. at mgh) ....Maybe you should get on an anti depressant, but try a benzo until it works..also I think you may get it worste when you're going to sleep, cause thats when my mind starts racing and I start stressing out about eveything...Also I can talk myself into a panic attack or at least add to it w/intenton...

probably taking to much oxycodone.  it is about twice as strong as morphine when taken orally.  i have had that experience before.  sometimes its hard to sleep when taking a lot of narcotics

Sorry, I have had serious sleep problems for years.  I've tried all the newest sleep meds, ambien, ambienCR, lunestar, Temazopam, and so on.   The only thing that helps at all is Xanax.  Even that does not keep me asleep all night.   Valium does not really work for sleep for me.  Valium is the best for w/ds but you are still taking perks so thats not it......Now you're at the point where you're thinking yourself awake.......Does the doc have any ideas.......Personally I am going to ask for like 2 or 3 seconols, heavy duty I know, but I have to break the cycle.  I can't get pst dream sleep.  I dream all night long and never reach that restful sleep.....They tell me stiff like exercise, eating right, yada yada yada, but I can't wait 6 months until I am in shape, I need sleep NOW... I don't mean to distract from your thread, just empathizing.  If you have not tried Xanax get a small script for that and give it a shot.  I never take it during the day.   I'm told by my new psychologist, that dreams of falling do exhibit an anxiety trait.....Work with your doc......Now you are worrying to much about sleeping to sleep.   I would say its the wds but not if you are taking the percosets.....Orally these are stronger than morphine like the other post.  I don't think its w/ds I think you're too anxious but Valium is NOT good for sleep at least for me.  If you solve this problem please post how you did it, because I need some help too.

I don't know what the amount of oxy you are taking but the last post before mine, "could" have a point, especially if you are taking them late, at bedtime.  Opiates keep me awake, same for my wife, whether oxy or hydro.   Try taking the percs no later than 6:00PM, if you can stand the pain, or as shortly after that as you can stand, then try the valium (2 tens should be more than enough), but Xanax works better for me.  Dont overdo the Xanax though.  I  take 2 ea. .5s, I've taken 3, I've even taken 4, and I've gone back to 2, sometimes even one...That said I haven't had a night of good restful sleep in over 20 years.......Now I can dream, like Hollywood....movie after movie after movie, but I can't get past dream sleep to the restful sleep.

slideshow is right about the xanax...i take klonipin daily and use the xanax as a fill in if the anxiety gets bad...but it never fails that the times i have had to go to the xanax...it just knocks me out and i sleep well,( but be careful it is addictive)  so therefore i cannot do the xanax in the day, i try to use it for the sleepless nights because its the only thing that keeps me asleep..instead of my 2 hour interval sleep pattern...

Yaaaah, I agree about the addiction part.   My doc says that as long as the dosage is fairly low and they are not necessarily taken every day, the chances for physical addiction are not big.

I too do not take them during the day, only at night to sleep, but as I said, it still does not solve my sleep problem, its just the best option out of the ones I mentioned.  I am interested in any solution that you discover.

was 3 valium too much?? Could that caused the problem?? Sometimes too much of a good thing, can have negative side effects.  Ruthie------I started with 1 and it didn't work so tried 2 the 3,I didn't start with 3.--chivaknevel I did not know percs were stronger than morphine, thanks for telling me that. And too all who mentioned anti dep.My shrink has had me on alot of different one, prozac, wellbutrin, remeron,Seraquil(which I hated the side effects)Now I'm on 200 mgs Zoloft,300 mgs lithium,5mgs Ativan and 15 mgs valium.Anxiety runs in my family and my mother wants me to ask for xanax, she says it works wonders for her. Thanks for all the feedback,I'll keep you posted.

I know you didn't address you last question at me, but 2 ea. .5 Xanax works better for me than more than that....Was 3 too Valium too much..?  It could have been, but......I don't think thats why you can't sleep.  I don't get Valium, often so usually take one and at the most 2, to sleep, but Valium does not work well for me for sleep.  They would "help" though, not hurt.

Sounds like your mom mentioned the xanax too.  My guess is the ADs along with the lithium, etc. are"screaming" in your system.....I just fired two shrinks that thought the answer to my problems was ADs and other meds...Meds are NOT the answer to all woes....He's the one that gave me all the sleep meds that did not work too, trying to psych me into "wow, this is strong, it will knock you out"  Well NOT....The xanax prescribed my regular doc works best.  Did I mentiond I fired the shrinks?

No offense, truly, because I don't know your situation, and I am not a doc, but you are taking a lot of chemical balance meds....Your seratonin and your brain does not know what to do...No wonder you can't sleep......Have you ever considered getting fewer meds from a regular doc, or the same shrink if you like him and seeing a psychologist........to talk it out.......?  I'm not a doc, I am a 55++ year old guy who has been through it, so I know when a shrink is trying "shrink me" instead of help me.  Please don't be mad at me for questioning your med regimen.  What I question is from my own bad experience with shrinks.....They tried to med me to mental health and it was NOT effective.

My family has alot of panic attacks and other things that are worst ..in my immediate family i have had 3 suicides and stepping out to blood relatives 3 more..That is scary...I hated valium.., never worked on me only the opposite..
to be honest after reading everthing..i really think you are having these panice attacks due to w/d's...i went back and read and you are on alot of narcotics..
how bad is your pain?
i really think when you go today , have your doctor and shrink please talk and maybe come up with some kind of plan..
good luck
