Cross addiction with Buti/cod#3/aspirin/caffeine and Klonopin

Please help me detox off these medications safely.  I have chronic migraine and an anxiety disorder.  I take pain killer as needed for pain and up to 3 mg klonopin for insomnia.  I have reduced the klonopin to 2 mg in the evening.   As for the migraine medication; 2 every 3-4 hours as needed.  I have pain everyday due to some orthopedic injuries but manage to take as little as I pill for pain other than for migraine headache.

I feel very depressed and wonder if this is because of the drugs.  I feel sick everyday now.  I do not leave the house.  I do not feel normal, motivated, or interested in anything.  Sounds desperate I know but desperate times call for desperate measures.  Any and all advice will be truly appreciated.   Thank you in advance for your time and postings.

what are you taking for migraine that is 2 every 3-4 hours as needed? I ask because many narcotics cause rebound headaches.  I thought I had migraines years ago but it was rebound headaches caused from the norco I took for my back surgery. The pain of rebound headaches is as bad as a migraine for sure. There are much better meds for real migraine.

Professional treatment (those suboxone pills); hospital detox under anatesia, slow detox with husband.  Hopfully, i am making the right decision to try it on my owm.  Btw, my husband is the only one who knows.  I can only imagine if my world knew the truth.  They are a cruel bunch and feel that it would push me over the edge.  I feel mentally fragile with my depression and pain.  I find strength in your honest words without judgement.  Thank you all so much.

Thank you so much for this information.  I am very scared with what I have done to myself.  I am extremely anxious about leaving the house today for an appointment.  I have been home for 5 days now only to wake up in extreme pain this morning and blow my own detox program by taking 2 norco at same time to avoid the Fiornal.  I am so depressed about this!    headache is subdued but soon to return as I've learned.  My physical injuries are much easier to treat when you don't move much (in bed) so today will be especially challenging for me.  I will be thinking of you all and what you have endured to get where you are today.  This is now my only strength.

Hi there-  Slow detox does work well. Also, you have to taper Fiorinal due to the high seizure risk from abruptly stopping butalbital; a barbiturate.  The same is true for Klonopin. Slowly taper off of that once you're through with the Fw/C.

At the same time, the Klonopin greatly reduces your seizure risk from eliminating the butalbital.  Have you told your doctor about your plan?  It's always a good idea just in case you run into a problem...

There are far better meds for migraine now...I won't list them all here because it's better to speak with your doctor. But, your current meds are most likely causing your headaches and once you're off them you'll be very surprised at how few headaches you experience!

Best of luck!

If it's a true migraine, then a triptan will work, like Zomig or Imitrex. I take Zomig (I get migraines about 3-5 times a year) and Zomig knocks it out. Ironically, Norco used to give me headaches and then unfortunately, I became accustomed to them and addicted to them...... Now I am on day 14 with no opiates and I am still not quite well, but better each day. I won't be touching those demonic yellow pills anymore. Fortunately, my pain level is manageable as well. Opiates cause rebound pain the same way rebound headaches work.
I wish you the best.

I have tried the migraine medication that works for you.  My doctor gave me Migrainal and Toradol shot.  They made me sick to my stomach and worked half the time.  Then, for breakthrough pain, an opiate.  It appears as if you know exactly what is happening.  I spelled the medication incorrectly; it is Butalbital not butibutal.   Butalbital (Fiorinal) is a sedative commonly prescribed for migraine but nowadays it just for pain not remedied by triptans like Zomig or my medication Migrainal.  I want my life back as well.  So deep into this; 25 years.  I hope slow detox works; otherwise, well.......I haven't thought that far ahead.  Thank you for your support and most informative info.  Best of luck to you as well.  Please tell me how your doing.

Also, I do understand the depression. This too can be from the codeine. I dont know what the butibutal is, which is why I haven't mentioned it. I was on my couch for 4 years while I took Opioids. I lost interest in EVERYTHING except my kids, but I didn't go anywhere with them. Not even out to the yard to swim!
I want my lfe back too. I am determined to have it. You can too.

I take Imitrex, there is also Zomig.  The codeine will DEFINITELY cause rebound headaches.  I have had both, and they are both just as painful!!  But once I was off the pain meds, I had no more headaches.  It wasn't until years later I started getting migraines with aura and vomiting.  I got very addicted to my pain meds. Vicodin, Norco, etc.  I didn't know how to stop so I went to a clinic and they put me on methadone.  Now I am trying to get off that 5 years later.  I went for help and all they did is switch my addictions. I was much more myself on methadone, but I gained 80lbs and thats depressing too. I am DONE. I am now decreasing my dose weekly preparing to go off completely in a few weeks.  Not looking forward to it, but I'm tired of cheating myself and my kids of the REAL me!
Talk to your Dr. if you have one and ask about Imitrex to stop the headaches although, once you are finally off the codeine, I suspect they will go away as mine did. Wishing you the best of luck!

I take the Butibutal/cod#3/asp/caff when I have migraine.  I may very well be in rebound; now taking one a day and plan on reducing to half in 5 days.  Hopefully this will work.  What better meds are for migraine?   Thank you for your post.
