I would do some research before doing that. There were many post about the severe withdrawal from Sub on this forum. You can try putting suboxone withdrawal in the search box.
Many people have done the taper method from all sorts of drugs. that would insure you don't have to withdraw from another drug down the road. Keep posting there are alot of people on this forum with experience. I never was addicted to methodone. vikes and oxy perc etc. thank God I don't have to use today.

methadone is an extremely difficult drug to get off, up to 6 weeks of withdrawals symptoms, and up to 2-3 years of PAWS, nothing like percs and oxies which consists of 4-6 days of wirthdrawals...
suboxone is easier to come off then methadone from what i hear and have learned and have read, but it also has to be done properly and too many are not doing it the proper way...

FYI the withdrawal from oxy is a tad longer than 6 days.
there are many people on this forum that have wds from methodone by taper and support here.
I encourage anyone I can to get clean and sober. Life is so much better.

I would definately speak to an MD with lots of experience in detoxing folks off of Methadone specifically. I am not sure whether he is right or not, but the MD that scripted my Suboxone (I am detoxing from roxis) told me "be glad that you are not detoxing from Methadone...if I were going to detox you from Methadone I would make you a drug addict first" (note: he has a blunt way of expressing himself).  By "make you a drug addict" he meant that he would prescribe me an opiate other than Methadone long enough for the Methadone to clear my system completely (which is a long time..he said that it gets into your bone marrow) AND then he would use the Suboxone to get me off the opiate that he prescribed (didn't say what that would be).  It seems to make sense to me but what do I know. Please take his statement with a grain of salt. From what I have read there are many conflicting opinions when it comes to Methadone and detoxing from it. I just thought I would relay what one MD had to say on the subject. Please don't allow that to discourage you. For more info, my recollection is that SAVAS is one of the members of the board who has fairly extensive knowledge on the subject. Good luck!

I was addicted to methadone a year ago and can tell you it is hell to come off of.  I could c/t from vicodin or oxy's in a week, with the worst being over in 4 days.  Methadone, however, has a much longer half life and it took 3 weeks before I could sleep more than a few minutes at a time.  The body aches took about that long as well, but my energy coming back took about 6 weeks.  I had the runs for that long too.  Not fun.

I was given ativan and dolmane to get me through the first 3 days and then a week of Subutex.  I felt normal when on the Sub.  Then when I came off, I went back into w/d for the time periods I specified.

Talk to your doctor, but normally you have to be down to 30mgs a day before you come off and go into w/d's.  You have to be in w/d's before they can give you Sub so they can find the accurate dose.

FYI...i am not foreign to oxy withdrawals...
and know of a few people who have tapered, and are STILL tapering off methadone...very few who have stopped completely and made it.
