Cx a Pre-Surgery Appt with my FP Doc

Hello Forum...been off the percs/patches for almost 5 months...back in the gym and doing cardio/weights.  I had another appt with my FP and I can't begin to tell you how anxious I was getting over this.  Why - the FP will provide me w/e I need, percs or patches for a couple of bad injuries in the past.

I played it safe and cx the appt; if I have too, I'll cancel or postpone the surgery (deviated septum repair) because I dont want any meds.

Is this rational thinking or am I becoming paranoid?

Guy

Actually I can understand your thinking but I'm not sure that I'm rational or that I'm not paranoid myself!! I'm also facing surgery sometime in early July and I just want to run away from it so I might not be the right one to answer your question!! LOL!!!
I think we have every right to be scared and we know the h$ll we went through to get off of these monsters and now we're faced with needing to have them again. It's a vicious cycle!!

I feel your pain.. I need a shoulder replacement due to arthritis. I have put off the surgery due to the same reason you are thinking about, this has been going on for awhile I do not know when I will be ready I just know I'm scared to death of the drugs Good Luck to you and congratulations on 5 months... Take care

Thx for responding but I guess my next question would be did anyone ever have surgery and not take any pain meds?

Thx to all...

I had surgery to remove a gallbladder - I had been self medicating enough that the Docs prescription (a pca morphine pump) did not work at all....nurses were pretty surprised when they checked it and none was gone - so I guess that yeah - I had surgery with no pain meds !!

There are a few who have refused pain meds after surgery. They did get IV and shots. It is up to you. I hate pain and I hate addiction. But in my opinion, the meds are there for those types of occasions. Just don't continue on them. If you take for a short time, there will be minimal problems getting off them. If you're weak. Have someone else dole them out to you.
