DAY 1 CODEINE W/D....TERRIFIED

I have  a 12 year codeine habit which resulted in me taking up to 600mg codeine phosphate up until yesterday (started after dental treatment). I feel a little woolly headed but absolutely terrified of what is to come on days 2 & 3. I know i have to keep the end goal in sight, a better me that's clean of codeine. I have cut all supplies , notified the online pharmacies i use and my doctor, I want to make sure as i can that i can't get my hands on this evil substance again.
I am researching if N/A is the way forward for me or if i would be better with a one to one situation, either way i know a mentor will really help. I would appreciate any advice others have that would help with the w/ds and also what was your saviour for aftercare?
Thanks in advance
Jan

Hey there welcome.....did my last detox stint on about the same amount give or take depending on the day.  Codeine......in Canada here we can get it OTC.

So by day 5...I was able to actually leave the house and appear normal.
673 days now......what a ride.

Oh did I mention the real ride starts once you're through detox.

Saviour ....exercise ....huge addict brain butt kicker.
Stay away from sugar, processed foods, caffeine ....and negative or sadly nostalgic situations.   Comedy relief.  Meditation.  Read, write, talk.  Def. search out if NA or AA is the route for you. ...it's subjective.

Epsom salt baths, water, L-tyrosine if you're not on an antidepressant that contradicts this amino acid. .....music,...dance.

Be with nature if you can, it's so grounding.

I'm Rootin for ya kiddo...you can do it. Hugs of hope.((((8))))

Hi Jan:

Welcome!  Congratulations on your decision to stop.   If you read through the posts of people who have been on here a while, you can see all the withdrawal symptoms you're likely to feel.   The worst of it usually peaks at day 5-7.

You'll fee like you have a very bad tummy flu; stock up on Gatorade, Immodium (use as little as possible to help relieve diarrhea), bland food, ginger ale, crackers, a heating pad, and plan to take as many hot baths as you can...they really help.

You mentioned that you notified your doctor; this is a very wise move.  Did s/he recommend anything to help you during the detox?

I'm not gonna lie to you; you're going to feel sick for a week or so, and then it will get better every day.  Keep yourself distracted; movies, books, funny tv shows, MUSIC, and any sort of exercise (even just a short walk around your house or yard) will help immensely.

You asked what was our personal saving grace in terms of aftercare.  For me, it is talking, talking, talking to other addicts.  It can be N/A, A/A, whatever, but sharing with others, daily/weekly is what pulls me through.

Stick close to here; you'll gets lots of support..  You're on your way to reclaiming your life!!!

Hugs,
-Robin
