DOCTOR SAYS ITS THE ONLY WAY ??????

by waytoomany, Jul 05, 2009 08:41PM
I asked my Dr. is there anything else I can do for my back pain? I went for 2nd opinion and they both tell me without pain medication I will not be able to function and that my back condition is too far gone .They go on to tell me how pain killers are life savers for some people and that im 1 of those cases, the pills dont take away all my pain but they do make it so i can go about my day,and also i have not gone up in over 2 yrs in against the Doctors orders I have stayed on the 15mg Oxycodone and now I have to take about 20 a day to relieve the pain thats why its messing with my head and just dont know what to do?????????????

I am so sorry about your suffering. I too have back pain. The doctors told me that my disc was basically blown (bone on bone). My only option was surgery (fusion). I had it two years ago and it was a partial success. It has allowed me to function better (not perfect). With what pain I do have, I take suboxone for it (it seems to help me with the back pain but thats just me). Is surgery an option for you? I think people just do not realize how back pain effects everything in your life unless you experience it yourself. Its tough when you need pain medicine but at the same time its taking over your life.  Maybe get a 3rd or 4th opinion. I went to several doctors before I decided on surgery. I hope you can find some answers. Just wanted to send some support your way.

I have chronic pain as well and I have been on Suboxone for a year and a half. There were never enough pills to take my knee pain away, and I was such a wreck that I had to get off of them.Suboxone has been helpful and it keeps me from chasing a pain free existence.I will always have pain, so will you.It is a fact of life and one you have to come to accept. The idea is to make it manageable and really try some other avenues to help, get another opinion, is surgery an option?
I don't know your personal situation but I know the hell of eating pain pills, and I sympathize.I just went back to work last week and my knees are so bad- I am fearing I will not be able to keep at my job for long.

Im in the same boat...been suffering chronic back pain for many many years and its getting worse each year. I got on the narcotic merry go round about 4 years ago (dabbled a bit in between the births of my 2 children but never used any while pregnant except a few when i was in my severe back attacks). But I got severely addicted to vicodin, the worst being the last 3 years Id say.  I made it almost a year clean off opiates but then relapsed a few months ago, and then clean again. but then my back started getting progressively worse again and i couldnt take it anymore. I couldnt keep up with the house, the chores, and MY KIDS.  couldnt play with them or anything so i went back to the pain clinic about a month ago who said "how are you even walking around without any meds"? after reviewing my MRI's, xrays, physical exam  etc) and put me back on the narcs. It suckks so bad being in this predicament and Im still not sure how i feel about it (being back on opiates, i mean). I know im playing with fire, yet on the other hand at this point cant function without them either. No idea what the future holds for me in this regard and for now Im taking it day by day . Good luck to you, I can totally empathize with you.
