ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
Darvocet

Darvocet

Here's a little story...

When I went to rehab for hydrocodone addiction, the girl the was staying in my room, was in there because she was given darvocet from a doctor, that thought they were not as addictive as other pain meds.  She was already a past addict, and he told her that if she took just a few, it would be fine, and that they are not commonly abused pills.  She took only 5-7 pills, before it made her entire body start craving worse than ever.  From that moment on, she was hooked all over again, but this time she was hooked on darvocet, and her doctor gave them freely since he had no clue.  She told me that she never though she would have any problems with them, because she never got anything out of using them, and they never made her feel like she was high.  BUT... her body told her different.  She said to me crying and curled up into a ball in her hospital bed, that she wished more poeple would know how terrible darvocets can really be, because she is living proof that they are dangerous to addicts, or anyone who might get the wrong information about medications.

We also had over 12 people there, who were having the WORST withdrawls because of TRAMADOL (ultram or ultracet).  And every single doctor and pharmacy I have ever gone to, will say, that those too are not addictive, but don't fool yourself.  Every single person there, took it like it was directed, but still got hooked just the same.  It goes to show you, that doctors and pharmacies don't always know the real "low down" of certain things.  I don't trust alot of what the medical field says now, only because they just don't always REALLY know.

I have worked in doctors offices most of my adult life and I have witnessed many patients addicted to Darvocet.  I heard a sales rep from a pharmaceutical company say once that Darvocet was just a "strong aspirin", and that is just a bunch of bull.  While I don't think they are anyone on the level of Oxycontin, Dilaudid, etc., they are definitely addicting and are surely stronger than any aspirin I ever took.
