Darvon for Methadone withdrawal

by jessejames31, Apr 14, 2008 08:35PM
i know i'm gonna get blasted for this question, but i gotta ask anyway. i get (56) 10mg methadone every 2 weeks, and every time i do all 56 in the 1st week, then withdraw the 2nd week. i've been doing this for quite some time now and getting real sick of it.. anyway, heres the question, i just got (40) 65mg darvon, and i was told that taking these will eliminate any withdrawal from methadone.. is this true and how many do i need to take a day? will i be able to work, and function as if i was taking my normal dose of methadone?
(i hope this isn't offending any1, i hate pissing people off)

I'm just being honest.I am 23 days off of methodone.I jumped off at 25mg.From what I've been through and everything I've learned here from people who are in the same boat. There is no way to eliminate methodone withdrawl. No pain no gain. You can ease the withdrawl from what some people say by tapering, but even those people experience withdrawl to some extent. The hardest thing to do is overcome that fear of detox.I'm a chicken about it.I NEVER thought I could have 23 days totally clean from anything but I do .If I can do this you can do this. You already know that trying to substitute the drug with another is not the answer. If you're like most you're on the methodone because you were trying to free yourself from another drug. It's a vicious cycle. you have to commit yourself to just do it or you're just going to keep going in circles.I know I've been where you are and that way doesn't work.YOU CAN DO THIS.You're in my prayers.Peace.

Methadone is so hard to withdrawal from. I really don't know about that. Do you think you could get someone to hold your meds for you so you don't take them all in one week?
I wish you luck with this.

i've actually had a few people offer to hold my script for me. i've said no only because i dont want to hate them after i beg them to give me more. i should give them to my boss, that way i go to work every day, and i cant call him something i shouldn't, ya know?

Seems like they may help a tad but i dont see how it would eliminate methadone Wds nor even come close..it would be a little help with hydros or oxys but dont think darvon would by any means elimate wds from a high dose of those either...weak narcotic verses a very strong narcotic in your case.....560 mg in one week in a fairy high dose ....just my thoughts...good luck and make a plan...40 darvon is probably not your answer...keep posting

You have been fighting this for a long time. You say you are sick of it but......
When will you be sick of it enough to actually do something? It will only get worse, the longer you do what you are doing. I like you but I am trying to get you to see it is your decision that you have to make. Looking for ways to tide you over is a sure sign that you have not fully decided that quitting is for you.

im sorry if this pisses you off but i just had to comment on your responce to jessejames31. I have struggled with addiction to pain pills for over 4 years it kills me that i have this problem and i have gone ct one time and it was hell i am taking methadone and want more than anything to be clean and free of this drug. you question his wanting to be clean just because someone is trying to figure out a way to do this with the least amount of wd doesn't mean that they dont want this just as bad as someone else i have five kids and it isn't as easy 4 me to just go ct as it would be 4 someone of your age. we are all different and do this in our own timing and in a way that work best for our personal situations

It was not meant to offend. I am sorry for that. Sometimes when things are presented in a different light a person sees the errors in their thinking. Jesse has been fighting this for a long time. I was hoping to stir something inside to hopefully create more determination. Remember I am an addict too. and was a very heavy drinker at one time too. Both I quit c/t and haven't looked back.

Don't worry about it and don't apologize.  I for one did not find it offensive and wish it was not so "easy" to "offend" now a days.  It feels like I have to read everything 3 times before posting so as not to offend anyone.  We are all here to help.  Bottom line.  Maybe it's just becuase I was raised with the tough love??? Who knows.  All the best. :)

Thank you for that. I really do not try to attack anyone. My goal is to see people through to getting and staying clean. We all have done similar things of using up meds early, etc.. It is when we truly realize that is what we are doing that we will take the necessary action to quit.

I think we all have ways of trying to get someone to "see the light", and intentions should probably be kept in mind rather than exact course of action.  I also feel, that we can't help but to respond true to ourselves, whatever we're feeling.  GTMI did just that.

This being said, there is NO way to avoid w/d here.  The two meds and doses in question are not equivalent, and I really don't think it'll help to replace the one with the other here.  Further, I would surmise that if w/d becomes a problem, one might be inclined to take more of the Darvon.  I personally believe taking the Darvon would be dragging you through the inevitable longer anyway.  To each his own, and this of course, has to be a personal choice.

Lastly, I would remind that when one asks here, they get answers.

I wish you the best with this Jesse.  We're here to support you and encourage you in whatever ways we can.

no pain, no gain...not necessarily true..anyone who is an addict has experienced withdrawals more than once, some repeatedly over and over again...obviously thats not enough to stop the vicious cycle of addiction...if it were true, we all would have been clean our first time through the withdrawal process....

it cant hurt to google it and see what it says or find a methadone site and ask there, you dont have to suffer to be successful with this...when it comes to methadone ANYTHING is worth an honest try.
