Hang in there... I'm on day 12 of cold turkey withdrawals from oxys and percocets... it DOES get better, believe me.  Don't think or worry about tomorrow, just be in today.

Tell us a bit more about yourself, ok?

i'm 26, I have a 2 1/2 yo.  Started using about 6 years ago but stopped for awhile (while I was preggo) started again right after I had my daughter, then broke an ankle, then had surgery. So it was a tough 2 years. I have severe TMJ and it causes pretty bad headaches. My doc wants to do open joint surgery but my insurance doesn't cover it. That's about where I am. I just take oxys because they make me feel good.

Hi. You are now going to pay the price for all the fun things the pills seemed to do.But I think for sure you are doing the right thing
It is like borrowing money,fun at the time,but it comes with a price.Keep going! You will be sick for a week,then will begin to come home to yourself.  Good luck.      karl

aw2849---I am proud of you for taking this huge step to get your life back. Your posts on my original thread (goin cold turkey off oxys and need helpppp) helped me through CT so now it's time to pay you back. I am now on DAY 14 (2 weeks) and I was where you are 13 days ago. I know how & what your feeling and anything I can help you with just ask. You should look into the Thomas Recipe and/or the amino acid protocol. It really helped me through the rough times. When you feel like you can't do it anymore just come back to the forum and post how you feel it is really great therapy and it keeps you mind occupied. Also pray to God for help as he is sitting by your side waiting for you to ask. I will be praying for you and you can and WILL get through this. I know it's easier said than done, but I can say it because i've done it. So hang in there I am very proud of you and know you can make it--much love quitin

I can't believe it's been 14 days. That's great! I remember reading through your posts and being amazed by how strong you are. I hope I can make it that long. At 5 it'll be 24 hours. I know it'll get worse from there so I really am dreading it. It's such a nice day out and I feel like laying on the couch feeling sorry for myself. Guess i'm not going to make mother of the year this time around right. Ha, maybe next year.

Hey~  Did you prepare for this at all?  Otc's,Nyquil,juices,comfort foods,vitamins,Immodium?
There are things that will give you some symptomatic relief but nothing is a panacea.
Gnarly always says"You have to be okay with not being okay for awhile".
Just lay low and ask for help at home.
Let us know~

kinda, I got some melatonin and a b-complex. Also immodium and some advil PM and Nyquil. Right now i'm kinda in a good mood. I hope it lasts, I was ready to cry not too long ago. Hehe, it's a good thing my daughter isn't old enough to think I'm a freak. :-)
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Oh, you will feel so much better in a few days!  Just hang in there.  I would be really careful with the Advil PM.  It has benadryl in it, and that can make RLS a lot worse.  At least it did for me!

Keep posting here.  You will get a lot of help!  I have been clean over 3 months, and I owe a lot of that to people here!

You can do this!
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
aw--You should also get a good multivitamin, calcium/mag and bananas for potassium it will help with the RLS (restless leg syndrome). Also drink plenty of fluids get yourself some juices like mango/pineapple, apple, orange also get some vitamin C it will definitely help. The melatonin really helps with sleep I found it works even better if you get some sun before you take it and once you take it lie in a completely dark room and you will doze off. Also try some valerian root for anxiety as it calms your nerves.Actually you were the one that turn me on to melatonin and it worked great for me. Another thing you can do is take a nice hot bath just before you want to sleep it will also help. I hope these things help you as they worked for me. You are strong and you can make it just keep a good attitude (I know it's tough) and it will get you through it. I am praying for God to help you find your inner strength.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
where can I find the valerian root? I didn't see it at walgreens. Also good to know about the advil. I will stick to the nyquil. Thanks you guys, I just might be able to do it this time. Longest I ever made it before was almost 3 days.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
They have Valerian Root at Wal Mart, usually.  That is where I got it.  Walgreens should have had it?????  Keep looking.  I couldn't take it, but lots of people on here do.  The Advil PM is a BIG NO NO for me!  Nyquil didn't do that though.  It might be fine for you.  I just wouldn't expect too much sleep no matter what you do......sorry! : )
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
Yeah tramahater is right Advil PM has an antihistamine in it and it made my RLS worse. Walgreens has Valerian root that is where I found it. Look around where the melatonin is or just ask someone that works there. I hope you feel better and take it one day at a time and before you know it you will be through the worst.

i'll go look again. I want to get the highland stuff also. I'm really kinda worring about this surgery that I am going to have on June 21st. Is there something non narcotic that they can give me for after?
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
You could try Toroidal I here it works well as long as you aren't allergic to aspirin based products. They can give it to you in a shot so it works fast and it's non-narcotic. I hope everything goes well for you. What kind of surgery is it?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
on my jaw, it's a last attempt to avoid open joint. Last time I had this done it hurt so bad I couldn't open my mouth at all for a couple days after. I am starting to have doubts about if I can do this. I think something is wrong in my brain. All I think about are pills. Right now all I want to do is take some and feel better.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
so I just read the Nyquil box and it has antihistamine also. Which one should I take? Advil PM or Nyquil? Can I take both?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
also, can I take two of the melatonins? They are 10 mg each.
Blank
Avatar_m_tn
good luck :)
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
You can get Nyquil w/o antihistamine in it. Yes I took 30mgs of melatonin it did help me sleep.
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
You know I hate to say this but if the surgery is REALLY painful maybe you might want to wait going CT until after the surgery. You don't want to go through this in god awful pain. But only you can decide that as I have never had surgery on my jaw. Just trying to look out for ya. There is no sense in causing yourself undo pain. I still think you should try to get off the pills but maybe this isn't the best time to do it. Is the surgery you are going to have very painful?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
well I only have 2 1/2 oxys left anyways, and my refill isn't until Wed. So I don't really have enough anyways. I hope that by then I can just take tylenol and advil for the pain. I'm sorry the surgery is july 21st not june. I made it through the night. Woke up every couple hours but at least I slept. I have a couple soma that I have been using and I think that helped me sleep. I'm trying to make the couple that I have last through day 4. Day 2 begins!
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Ok, wait a sec....are you still taking the pills?  For some reason, I was thinking you were off of them.  I guess I was thinking about me when I was on them!  Pills would have never lasted around here!!!! : )  So you are on day 2 of??? Taper?  You aren't going to get that refill on Wed, right?  DON'T DO IT!!!
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
Yes I was under the impression you had stopped taking the oxys? I also re-read your post are you going to have surgery? And if your doc wasn't giving you the oxys he probably won't now. Again I have never had jaw surgery I was wondering if it was very painful. If you could get through it with Toroidal  or OTC I would try. well I am still pulling for ya let me know about the surgery.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
sorry about the confusion, no I am not taking them, haven't since Friday afternood. Am going to have surgery next month. Yes I was getting them from my doc but also buying from people because I was taking more than I was supposed to. Somehow I think having the two in the house somehow makes it easier. Kinda like you don't want it as bad because you have it kinda thing. But I can't take em cause then I would have to start over anyways. Hope I made sense this time.
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
ok now I understand, maybe you should give the couple of pills to someone to hold cause you don't want to grab for them in a time of weakness. If I had some in my worst days I might have convinced myself it was ok. That's why I dumped mine in the bay. Since your surgery isn't until next month I would forge ahead with the CT. I was just concerned that the surgery was in a couple days when you will be in the thick of w/d. How are you feeling today? Did you go out and get NyQuil w/o antihistamine? Drink plenty of fluids and if you have no appetite get some Ensure so you can get protein. I hope you have a good day today.
Blank
1337425_tn?1278177587
I'm having a tough day, and if I had 2 oxys, believe me, I'd take them.
dumping em in the bay,eh quit?  now we ALL know why the fish are dying (if they're not high)
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
well I don't see any point in taking them now. I only have 2 1/2. Then I would have to start over. I might feel good for an hour or so but then what? And the only person here with me is my daughter, and she can't hold em. I was feeling kinda ok. But I started getting a really bad headache so that's what is bugging me now. And the fact that I can't sit still. Thanks for asking.

Honey, do you have a social detox in your area, and someone who can stay with your daughter for a few days?? That is what I had to do 3 weeks ago today. I have 2 small children as well, and was doing lots and lots of percs/vics then went on to H. My life was a blur, i wanted to stop (like you) but couldnt on my own. I finally had to tell everyone what was going on, and my family took me to detox. Not gonna lie...it was HELL, but they do (at least here) give you some meds for diaherra (diarrhea), cramping, and restlesness that really helped. I stayed for 5 days, just cause I was afraid to leave before the withdrawls were done. I am happy to say I have 21 days today! You CAN do it. If not for you, than that little angel of yours! Good luck!
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
honestly if I was going to take them it would have been yesterday. I really don't have any desire to start this crap over again. As far as the detox center I have heard they are very expensive and I'm broke do to buying pills. I also can't tell anyone about this. There is no way. Just have to do. I got myself here, now I have to get myself out.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Hey honey!  At least check out a 12 step meeting.  The thing about "I got myself here, now I have to get myself out" is true to some extent, but there is no harm in having support, right?  Yes...YOU have to quit the drugs, but I promise that staying clean is impossible alone.  I tried too many times, and I failed miserably each and every time until this time.....WITH HELP!

Do it for yourself!!! : )  You can make it through this!!!  THROW THE PILLS AWAY THOUGH!!!!  Why are you keeping them?  No need right?

Hugs and hope you get rid of the headache!

Well at least your not alone this is my first day about 18 hours into detoxing and ye it *****. This is my second time getting off about 3 mnths ago I went 1 mnth without taking anything I detoxed but couldn't caved under the stress of life and went right back to the pills. Well I know what to expect and still dread knowing it's about to get worse. I'm a father of 3 and 1 on the way and my babies deserve better and I guess it's time fir me to stop being a baby myself and grow up. So mabey this time I can stay off for good I can get a little more support from this site to help me finally beat this addiction.

I started going to NA meetings last week. I go to one every Thursday. Really I wish I could go to more but I don't have a sitter and I don't want to bring my kid. So I am on day 2, at 5pm here (seattle) it'll be 48 hours. Can someone tell me when I will start feeling a little better? I have ne energy at all. Thanks everyone, and good luck Jake.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
I'd say when you can exercise and sleep some, then the energy will creep back in.  I had a hysterectomy not long after I detoxed, so my energy was BAD for awhile.  Once I was able to go walking, it got a lot better.  Helps depression and anxiety/stress too. I'm not implying that you could exercise in the middle of WDs, but when you can it will help.  Have you looked at the amino acid protocol?  Taking B12?  Those help too.

Try taking a HOT bath just before you try to sleep, then take the melatonin in a completely dark room. The combination of hot bath and melatonin seem to help me sleep. Tomorrow get outside and try to get some sun it helps. Try a cold towel on the back of your neck it will help you to cool down. I hope you can get some sleep tonight. I know its rough but hang in there you will get through it.

I hear you about not wanting anyone to know about your problem, people close to you. That kept me going for years without any help, the shame and embarsement of telling ANYONE, even my husband was unbearable. Once they found out though, I could not beleive how supportive my family was, and still is. I never gave them any credit. Just my experience, hun. If I didnt' go to detox, I would still be in the same boat. I was spending about 1000.00 a week on H, so I know about the no money thing. I live in Bellingham! Close to you...are you sure they have no social detox program there? I didn't have to pay for mine. It's covered by the government. It's not "rehab", just a place to go thru your withdrawls and get the rest and support you need. it saved me, thats why I'm just suggesting it to you! Praying for you !

so I went looking through the medecine cab. for things that would make me feel better and guess what I found...Tramadol. So I took one because I know they are non narcotic. I only have 15 of them so I think by Tuesday when the worst is over I can just toss em. Also I don't know that they will do anything because I got them 2 years ago.  Figured I better come clean with you guys about it though.
Blank
1331115_tn?1332089918
Tramadol is a weak synthetic opioid so it will bind to your Mu receptor (just like opiates) and may give you some relief, but it will only prolong the inevitable. Also it is addictive. I hope that tramahater reads your post as she has first hand experience with the horrors of taking tramadol. Be careful not to switch one drug for another.
Blank

okay I will look into that. I'm actually on the mobile version because I have to use my phone for the internet. I will find it though. Thanks
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Okay...Either you're going to use or you're going to quit!!  Tramadol is an opiate with an SSRI.  You take them and you're defeating your purpose.  Stop it.  Flush everything and suck it up.  I don't mean to be harsh but there are a lot of folks supporting you here and
you just can't be going through the medicine cabinet to find something to help.  Time helps.      Now get tough,get mad,and get something to eat!!

here is some info on tram

SOME INFO ON TRAMADOL [This user is a Community Leader for this forum]
I have seen alot of info latley on tramadol some every incorrect .So I thought I would put some infromation together so everyone will have a better understanding of it .

It is addicting
You do have ephoria
It should NOT be used by ANYONE with addiction issues.

What is the most important information I should know about tramadol?
Physical Dependence and Abuse

ULTRAM may induce psychic and physical dependence of the morphine-type (μ-opioid) (see DRUG
ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE). ULTRAM should not be used in opioid-dependent patients. ULTRAM
has been shown to reinitiate physical dependence in some patients that have been previously dependent on
other opioids. Dependence and abuse, including drug-seeking behavior and taking illicit actions to obtain
the drug, are not limited to those patients with prior history of opioid dependence

You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.

Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of tramadol in one day.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. A tramadol overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms of a tramadol overdose may include drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme weakness, cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma. Tramadol may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Tramadol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication. Do not crush the tramadol tablet. This medicine is for oral (by mouth) use only. Powder from a crushed tablet should not be inhaled or diluted with liquid and injected into the body. Using this medicine by inhalation or injection can cause life-threatening side effects, overdose, or death.

What is tramadol?

Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever.

Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Tramadol extended-release is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain when treatment is needed around the clock.

Tramadol may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking tramadol?

You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol, if you are currently intoxicated (drunk), or if you have recently used any of the following drugs:
alcohol;

narcotic pain medicine;

sedatives or tranquilizers (such as Valium);

medicine for depression or anxiety;

medicine for mental illness (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia); or

street drugs.

Seizures have occurred in some people taking tramadol. Your risk of a seizure may be higher if you have any of these conditions:

a history of drug or alcohol addiction;

a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

a history of head injury;

a metabolic disorder; or

if you are also taking an antidepressant, muscle relaxer, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.

Talk with your doctor about your individual risk of having a seizure while taking tramadol.

Before taking tramadol, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

kidney disease;

liver disease;

a stomach disorder; or

a history of depression, mental illness, or suicide attempt.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take tramadol.

FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tramadol may also cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Tramadol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Tramadol should not be given to a child younger than 18 years of age.
Tramadol may be habit-forming. Tell your doctor if you feel the medicine is not working as well in relieving your pain. Do not change your dose without talking to your doctor. Store tramadol at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Tramadol is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription
Seizure Risk
Seizures have been reported in patients receiving tramadol within the recommended dosage range. Spontaneous post-marketing reports indicate that seizure risk is increased with doses of tramadol above the recommended range. Concomitant use of tramadol increases the seizure risk in patients taking:

•Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI antidepressants or anorectics),
•Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and other tricyclic compounds (e.g., cyclobenzaprine, promethazine, etc.), or
•Other opioids.
Administration of tramadol may enhance the seizure risk in patients taking:

•MAO inhibitors (see also WARNINGS - Use with MAO Inhibitors),
•Neuroleptics, or
•Other drugs that reduce the seizure threshold.
Risk of convulsions may also increase in patients with epilepsy, those with a history of seizures, or in patients with a recognized risk for seizure (such as head trauma, metabolic disorders, alcohol and drug withdrawal, CNS infections). In tramadol overdose, naloxone administration may increase the risk of seizure.

Suicide Risk

•Do not prescribe ULTRAM ER for patients who are suicidal or addiction-prone.
•Prescribe ULTRAM ER with caution for patients taking tranquilizers or antidepressant drugs and patients who use alcohol in excess.
•Tell your patients not to exceed the recommended dose and to limit their intake of alcohol.
Serotonin Syndrome Risk

The development of a potentially life-threatening serotonin syndrome may occur with use of tramadol products, including ULTRAM ER, particularly with concomitant use of serotonergic drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, MAOIs and triptans, with drugs which impair metabolism of serotonin (including MAOIs) and with drugs which impair metabolism of tramadol (CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 inhibitors). This may occur within the recommended dose. (See CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY-Pharmacokinetics).

Serotonin syndrome may include mental-status changes (e.g., agitation, hallucinations, coma), autonomic instability (e.g., tachycardia, labile blood pressure, hyperthermia), neuromuscular aberrations (e.g., hyperreflexia, incoordination) and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

I have to see this through

I heard advil PM is a problem for some because of the antihistamine. I still take it cause that's all I have, but you should get some Nyquil with no decongestant, also Melatonin helps. You can only take it adter dark though. That's how it works. Good luck, and stay strong

I take Melatonin and valarien root together every night. I'm on a long taper getting off of Ambien, which is a nightmare. I'm down to a very low dose now. It's so low it doesn't do a thing to help me sleep.  I take one melatonin, one cup of Yogi Bedtime Tea (which has 20mg Valerian in it).  I usually wake up at around 4am. That's when I take a 450mg Valerian Root cap. That helps me sleep until 8 or so. No problems or side effects for me.

Just checking in on ya, I have been buried at work so haven't had much time to read any posts on the forum. I saw that you FLUSHED the vic's last night and let me say that I am EXTREMELY PROUD of you for doing that. I know how much courage it takes to do. I know you are going to make it now. So today you are at DAY 4 wow that is an accomplishment in itself so keep on going you are doing great. Oh yeah the Valerian root smells like wet mulch to me. Just hold your nose when you swallow them and yes Valerian & melatonin can be taken together. Sleep WiLL eventually come hang in there.

I'm honestly starting to lose hope. I don't know how much longer I can handle this. I need to get some sleep. My head hurts, my whole body aches.  I can't stop sweating. I'm an emotional wreck. I'm angry that I have to deal with this. I'm angry that I let it get this bad.

I know it all seems hopeless right now but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just hang in there a couple more days and I promise you will start to feel better.  For the aches & pains try taking 800mg Ibuprofen it helped me. The  headache get an icepack and put it behind your neck it will also help with the sweats. I know you are going through a rough time right now but hang in there. I am praying that God will give you strength to get through this as he did me.

Yes, aw, do hang in...you fighted all the way and of course there is light at the end of this tunnel !! Trust quitin, he's been there just a few days ago and he knows well, we all have been there and it's worth it... you are in the middle of the tunnel right now but with a BIG difference...the second half is much better than the first half because instead of things getting worse, they are getting BETTER!!! believe on yourself, you can do it!!!!!

How are you doing this evening (well for me it's evening on on east coast)? I hope you are feeling a little better. Right now you are going through the worst of it and things will get better in a day or so. Just keep hanging in there keep up the hot baths and try (I knows it's hard) to get some exercise it will help you to sleep at night. Keep going you will make it and we are ALL POUD of you for having the courage to get past this stage. I am praying for you.---quitin

I wish I could. I'm sorry, I hope tomorrow is better, but the dreaded night is coming fast and we all know how that goes. I'm going to take 4 of the stinky valerian root and 3 of the melatonin. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for checkin on me you guys. I know I would have caved by now had it not been for all of you. I would have found a way, even with no pills in the house. So thanks again.
Sonotoverit - I hear we are close to the end. Hang in there
