Day 24...liver ALT slightly high :(

A lot of you guys already know my story.  I was popping 10-12 10/325 a day for 16 months.  At the 3 week mark i decided to see my dr and get a full check up including bloodwork. everything came back normal, but my ALT liver function test came back normal/slightly high.  the range is 8-35 and mine came back in 51.  Dr thinks its from all the acetaminophen i was taking with the percocet.  She said come back in 2 months and get it checked again.  Is it common for ALT to be high 3 weeks after stopping??  Anybody else have the same experience??  Now I am so pissed up at myself.  I cant believe i was popping that much acetaminophen and hurt my liver...very disappointed.  She said never take those pills ever again...which i already know

she wants me to come back in a few months and retest.  i am over it now.  i am sure it will regulate and get back to normal.  i know 16 months is a lot of time, but what i been reading is years of abuse cause liver damage.  at least that is what i am hoping for.  best of luck to you.  stupid dr had you taking all those meds??? WTF??  insane.  btw i dont blame my pain management dr for what i did.  i was a liar and i tricked him.  my pain lever only need pain meds for the first month or so after messing up my back.  what a fool i am.

To answer your question..I thought I did. I had such bad pain in my Kidneys and so forth, for so long that I thought something was wrong. I got a complete blood test and things looked OK. Finally all that back area pain went away. Ha! Except now it is in my spine because of it slightly degenerating & bulging.

I do think when you go back it will be better. These pills do so much to our organs too, let alone the Brain Chemistry. Just hang in and try not to drive yourself crazy over this. YOU will be fine, I bet.

Keep us updated on this.

Hey OxyPn, not sure if you were addressing your question to me, but I'll answer ya just in case. Yes. My liver is damaged. We are looking at a partial transplant for me

Now, with that said, don't be alarmed! Back 15 years ago, the medical warnings on Tylenol and NSAID'S were not there. When my chronic pain first began, docs irresponsibly prescribed me 3200 mg of ibuprofen daily, along with Bextra (another NSAID that is now off the market), and 6 Vicodin ES per day for a total of around 4500mg of Tylenol daily. I was taking over 10,000 mg of prescribed NSAID'S daily for five years. Doctors are certain that my liver damage occurred then. The safe daily max of Tylenol is 3200mg if I remember correctly. Although you were hovering around or just above that, I'm thinking your body will regulate just fine.

The main symptoms I have from the damage include vomiting blood regularly and a stabbing pain right underneath my right ribcage. My fingernails are a bit yellowish at times too. Those levels can be high for a number of reasons, especially imbalanced nutrition. With your recent stomach issues, they could be throwing them out of whack. I checked my most recent lab paperwork for you before writing this and my ALT level was 118. I'm still alive and kicking, so don't fret too much. Did the doc want to repeat your labs in a couple of weeks? If not, I would not be concerned at all. :)

Hey, I have an absolutely wrecked liver from overuse of NSAID's snd Tylenol my early 20's. I can't remember my last Enzyme levels, but they were crazy high. I will say this, the levels alone can regulate with time. If you really have damage, you'd begin to see some of my favorite symptoms: Nausea, projectile vomiting blood, nosebleeds, and crazy pain on the upper right abdomen near your rib cage. I wouldn't panic about the levels. They will probably regulate.

I was taking a lot of perc 7.5 with Tylenol . Mine was in ALT was in the 100's . So they put me on oxycodone . It takes awhile for your body to adjust. But mine is back to normal. I'm sure yours will go back to normal soon:) Don't worry about it because in the 50's really ain't back.

If you are overweight they will be up from that also. Don't know if you are but that's a big cause.

It takes our internal organs longer to recover so this isnt surprising to me.  Just make sure to go back in a couple months and recheck it.  Until then, continue in your recovery!!
