Day 4 No Vicodin...Used Tramadol on 2nd and 3rd Day

I was taking 30-50 mg of hydrocodone per day. Does the fact that I use Tramadol(4 pills day 2, 3 pills day 3) delay the withdrawal process or does it actually mask the process? Major anxiety issues right now.

16 days and no hydro! Vacation was tough...I won't lie, but I felt better each day. Feeling pretty good now...bouts of low energy, depression, and anxiety. I'm just so happy I don't feel like I did the first few days. That alone is enough to put a smile on my face. Thanks for your support all.

Jesse, great job so far, you seem to be through the worst of it. Sleep will normalize in time. My one suggestion would be to reconsider telling your wife. I am a successful, respected professional woman with young twin boys, two stepdaughters, respected parents and siblings and a husband that is disabled (hence my easy access to pills) and his a sister that abused opiates. No one knew about my addiction, which made me only accountable to myself, and as an addict I didn't care to be accountable to myself. I was extremely high funtioning and no one knew of my addiction; that just enabled me to use longer. I had gone through periods where I would stop but I would always find my way back to the pills. It was not until I had the very difficult conversation with my husband confessing my addiction that I was able to really start trying to recover for good.  I was terrified of having that talk but I should have given him more credit. Even though he was upset, he was more concerned and actually hurt that I didn't seek his support sooner. I then and now have not only someone else to be accountable to, but I have his support.  Like he said, we vowed to be there in sickness and in health and addiction is an illness. Even though you cut your source, you could probably get pills again if you really wanted to, and relapses happen or have happened to so many of us...even if you think it won't. You will lessen your chance of that happening if you are honest with your wife, and you will feel like a weight has been lifted. I think this situation brought my husband and I closer together. Now, would I tell my coworkers? No. But my partner, yes.  Best of luck and just think about it.

Feeling a little worse than yesterday. Anxiety/Depression have increased compared to where I was at 24 hours ago. Not nearly as bad as it was three days ago. (Normal?) Trying to stay focused on that. I keep telling myself tomorrow will be my best day yet.  Sleep last night was very difficult. I hope to get some better rest tonight. I think I'll try some Benadryl. Anyone have any luck with that? Day 6.

Thank you. I've been walking about 2 miles a day...just to keep busy. I hope your right about day 8 although, I am still feeling quite a bit better today...I thought as the morning went on that might fade. Trying to stay busy at work.

You got this Jesse15!  I just went through this, I had to quit in secret too.  I am 21 days on no pills today!  You will be feeling so much better on day 8 for your vacation, I promise.

I suggest getting a small script of Xanax to take at night.   Sleep is key to feeling normal.
Absolutely try to do some rigorous exercise, the kind where you really sweat.  If not, go for long walks.
Also, if you can get your hands on a high CBD strain of pot it does wonders for anxiety.  I am in CA so it's easy to get a medical pot card.   Google it.

This bud!  Day 8 is much better than day 3-4!  Be proud, you'll get feeling better each day!  One day at a time!  BRAVO!!!

There was a time when I thought 5 days would have been impossible. Any idea on where I may be with the process on day 8. That is the ground zero date for me. 2 hours on a plane and 7 straight days with the family. Would you consider 30-50 mgs of hydro a day a lot compared to what you have seen in other cases. I'm so new to this whole thing.

That's the way Jesse. One day at a time. IMHO, I would stay away from the Xanax. Bigger problems down the road and we're not looking for more problems that's for sure. Look into aftercare of any kind. Don't let the fear of the unknown slow you down. Reach out around you for help. You'll be surprised at the people willing to help. As for Med-Help, don't be surprised at all. Help is out name. Keep posting and be honest with yourself and to those who love you best. Good Luck Jesse and Keep posting....ike

My plan going forward is to stay clean. I have intentionally sabotaged my relationship with my hydro source(nothing that will result in my being in danger. Believe me, he will not sell me anything.  I have no source or supplier for the Trams.  I had a few laying around that were given to me at a concert a while back. My intention is not to tell my wife or family what I am going through. I have used this vacation as motivation to get clean. I just hope I started the process soon enough. I was able to get .5 mg of Xanax from a co-worker yesterday(work has been brutal this week) and I slept for 8 hours last night. Restless leg and anxiety had been keeping me up. Today I feel a bit better. Lingering effects from Xanax?

Just being able to get this off my chest has been invaluable. The time you have all given me by responding is so generous. I can't thank you enough. I never realized that support like this was out there. Thank you all.

Don't, I repeat Don't take Tramadol! It is a drug that should have never been released. I am tapering from it and took it as prescribed most of the time and I can hardly function as even tapering is causing horrible anxiety. It's very easy to get addicted to. It has a strong anti depressant that is mixed with a synthetic opiate and it hooks you so fast. I didn't even know my body was addicted until I decided to stop them as my pain was getting better. You only have a week or so and your done. Tram wds go on and on. Best wishes to you

I agree with Ike. Please give us more information so we can better support your decision.
Tramadols are a completely different drug than opioids. Most people with experience will tell you not to take them for any reason. They can be more difficult to quit and require a Drs supervision. Were they prescribed for you or did you get them another way?
If you are still in serious pain and want off the opioids you'll need an alternative. Either something over the counter like extra strength excedrin or you could speak to your Dr about beta blockers. Some people use acupuncture. Thank you for posting.  Maxy

Hey Jesse. Congrats on getting clean. Myself, I don't judge. That fact alone stands on it's own to me. you asked the question about Tramadol. I have no actual experience with the drug, I was just wondering how Tramadol fits into your story? Where you planning to use Tramadol from the inception of your recovery or did you lean on it as a drastic resort? Sure it's going to mask the wd effect of the hydros but any step down measure is used for easing up the symptoms. I have to wonder if you have a plan moving forward. I get the feeling your family doesn't know what you're doing. You can't tell your wife? Lots of questions there Jesse, i hope you can be honest with your family. At least the ones that are old enough to help you. Maybe you can consider your pcp or another outside source to lean on. I would have to say vacation should be one to remember. Good luck Jesse. I wish you the best.....ike

Thanks for your response. Vacation with wife and daughters on Sunday. I can deal with physical symptoms but this anxiety is brutal. I want to crawl out of my skin. Hoping to feel a little better in 4 days.

Hey there!! Please stay away from the trams, it's only gonna mask the withdrawals from the hydros, and from personal experience trams are H*LL to get off of!!! Look up the Thomas Recipe, some say that helps ease the withdrawal symptoms. But please stay away from the trams. Keep posting and good luck!!! ~Sherry
