Day 5 don't know if i can make it.

Today is day 5 with no methadone. my last dose was 50mg. on thursday.  I tried the subutex for the last three days but it always sends me into withdrawls.  today I took 4mg and it was strange because it didnt make me feel better but it also did not make my withdrawls any worse.  So I am still feeling awful.  What do I do now  ???

Believe it or not it is a common misconception that the naloxone in suboxone is what puts you into precipitated withdrawal.  It is actually the Buprenorphine which is the active ingredient in both suboxone and subutex.  The naloxone is in suboxone to prevent it from being injected.  Injected the naloxone will make someone ill.  Since sub is taken sublingually the naloxone takes no effect, it is not absorbed well via that method.

Hope this helps a bit :)

So to add to my previous post, Methadone has a long half-life, therefore it probably takes five to ten days until you no longer have any Methadone on board. The Naloxone recognizes the presence of another opiate and drops you into immediate withdrawal. You may want to get in and see your Doctor to get Suboxone unless you think you can handle it until the Methadone is completely out of your system, which could be a few more days, just my two cents anyway...

I might be wrong, but I believe Subutex contains Naloxone. Naloxone is an ingredient put in so that if the user takes any opiates, he/she will go into immediate withdrawal as to keep the patient from abusing other opiates. It seems weird that your Doctor would switch you from Methadone to Subutex, it is usually suboxone first isn't it?

I always try to remember that the drug I'm kicking made me nuts. That's why I'm kicking it. My worst day clean isn't half as bad as my best days using. That's why I won't use, no matter what. It WILL get better.

Are you only prescribed 4mg a day?  If your prescribed more it sounds like its safe to take more now.  I am on 8mgs a day and I was coming off of vicodin and percocet.  Methedone is much harder to come off of.  You may need another dose or 2 before you begin to feel better.

Good Luck, I hope it starts working for you soon.

Congrats on Day 5!!!

I kicked the methadone horse and even with suboxone it wasnt pleasant. Jumping at 50mgs was a brave brave feat.  Its obvious you are a strong individual.

A side note... Perhaps the reason the subutex caused some precipitated wd's was due to your dose of methadone being 50mgs.  Standard texts reccomend a taper to a dose of 25mgs of methadone or less and a 2 to 3 day abstinence period (Or until wd's are moderate) to induce on buprenorphine.

On the bright side, lets hope that those precipitated wd's expedited the wd process!  Continue your docs regimen, and you will be good as new!

Continuing taking the Subutex as directed. It will eventually get better, and taking is will not make things any worse.

If I were you I would just keep doing what you are doing and hopefully things will get better day by day.  It is a good sign that you are not feeling any worse, maybe the sub is going to start working.  Maybe tomorrow will be a whole lot better for you.  I will keep you in my prayers
