i am soooo sorry to hear u can't sleep. i remember when that happened to me. i remember also going to my doctor about that, because i thought i was going to die with 2 weeks of no sleeping. and she told me, that give it time, that eventually the chemicals will kick back in ---in your brain and u will sleep. it my be 1 to 2 hours at a time. But it will get better! Congrats on 9 days!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear sleep has not found you yet.. It will.. I know when I detoxed I only caught 10 to 15 min at a time for a couple of day's then on the 8th night I passed out and slept for 7hrs. This will happen for you.. Have you tried the natural products.. I had taken a Valerian root with a 5mg. melatonin.. with my brain as fried as it was from no sleep it did the trick... I hope tonight you find the sleep you so desperately need.. My sympathies are with you.. hang in there.. lesa

when you don t sleep it s horrible...it happened to me in  the first month of detox.  it s very normal so don t worry but you feel like xxxx!  have you tried anything to help?  there is a vitamin out called melatonin...it helps you fall asleep naturally..not addicting in any way.  sleep will come....very soon...congrats on 9 days..the worst is over...maria

After about 11 days with NO sleep AT ALL, I started getting 10 to 15 min twice a day...it gradually increased from there.  I have no idea how I or anyone else lives through it, but we do.  I swore I'd pass out, thinking the brain would require the sleep and so it would just shut down and make it happen, but that simply wasn't so.  It will get better, hang in there you're doin' great!

merrymaria....FYI, Melatonin's a hormone.  I knew you wouldn't mind me tellin' ya that right? Muah!

I am one month clean.  I slept ALL day for the first 5 days of detox, then by night 9ish, NO SLEEP.  it is awful, one of the worst side effects.
It's hell, but it passes.
it's another rite-of-passage, a reminder of why we need to stay off and not go thru another detox.
stick with it, there is light coming soon to you.

Listen, sleep will come. Your body can only go so long without sleep, so eventually things will give up and you will sleep. Maybe not 8hrs or what you would like, but a few here and there to start. That is how it worked for me. Once addicted, we change so much that should be normal, so when we stop it drastically like that, we don't know how to function normally, things will all go back to normal. For me, and I was a severe oxy user, sleep didn't come for almost 2 weeks, maybe one hr here and there...good luck.

Hang in there - sleep will come.  For me, I had the opposite problem for awhile I wanted to sleep all the time and just be lazy!  But, the nights I had a difficulty, I took magnesium for muscle cramps and melatonin (a natural herb you can get at Walmart).  Melatonin is naturally in our bodies and it is what helps us sleep.  If you take this about an hour before bedtime - you should be able to sleep somewhat better.  Someone mentioned Valarian Root and that works too - because it's a natural anxiety/relaxing herb.  Good luck!!! I've been using some tylenol pm to help me sleep.  It helped the first couple of days but now it's not working as good so if your really hurting you might want to try that.  I also took some cold medicine or sudafed at the beginning of my w/d because my I was feeling flu symptoms anyways.  I'm on day 6 from 5 year vicodin addiction so I suppose my recovery will take a while but I am hopeful.  Still tired all day long and just wanting to stay on the couch...  Hoping for some energy!
Good luck!

Hi...Hang in there...you wont die or get sick...but it could take a while (sorry). Comming off Oxy in 2001....in a rehab, I went a full (I swear this is absolutely true) 26 days and night with not a second of sleep. My symptoms were purely neurological....especially electric/ice water like sensations running down my left leg....exploding in that foot...compelling me to 'Kick'....then start over again after a few seconds....every night (when ever I was unoccupied and quiet...like trying to sleep)...for 26....then min. to half hours at a time....but my case was odd .... never met anyone that experienced that length of time....so I am thinking, that you too will find sleep much sooner than that....If I could survive that (and I did) without any permanent injury....so will you...Praying that sleep will find you real soon.....be proud of yourself!    wenber

what all have u tried?  sleep is so important to recovery..if u have tried the otc meds like benadryl,, melatonin, valerian root, etc..and had no luck, i would ask my dr for sumpin safe for sleep..phenergan is one that helps, elavil helps me but many cant tolerate it due to drogginess in the am...i used ambien but have never had a problem with it..some do tho and it can be a drug of abuse..sometimes muscle relaxers will help too...800 mgs of magnesium and 5htp with some calcium helps before bedtime for many...talk to ur doctor as sleep is so so important and we can become weak without it
