Detox from morphine after 8 years

Detox from morphine after 8 years

How do i detox off of morphine 260mg daily?  I have been on that dose for 8 years since i've became diabled.  I also take oxycodone 5mgx3 per day,alprazolam,0.5x3 per day, temazepam 30mg at bd time,100mgs of seroquel at bedtime, gabapentin 300mg x two per day, mobic 15mg once a day, and linsinopriil 10mg per day.  My family doctor says no problem he will start taking 20mgs away each month.   What is the right way to detox i have forgot my meds and been in detox mode lots of time in the last eight years and it's not fun.  I'm really scared, frightened, about all of this detoxing, but i also want to get off of all cii's controlled substances.  please help me with some ideas.  I have a friend whos dr is giving him valuim to help him through detoxing.  I'm open for any help   thanks

Wow my friend your question is too complex for me to offer any advice here.
I recently got off more morphine than your taking however I did not have any other health problems and other meds. One thing only ask your doctor if you can take some Chondline when your coming off the morphine I have no idea what your health is so you must ask a doctor. My personal opinion is your over medicated and I would consult another doctor.
Wishing you the best
Peace

I would suggest not to detox off the xanax and restoril at the same time as the pain pills. Your dose of morphine (oral) and oxy aren't that high and you could cut 15% of the dose every  other day . The detox from the benzos (temazapan-restoril and xanax-aprolazam) can be much more difficult and needs medical supervision. all the best

i agree with mr lucky....u can not do this all at once and it will be a slow process...and u need the help of ur dr..can u talk to him/her?    as a rule people get off the narcotics first...then the benzo (xanax) which will need to be tapered...oxy would be a good place to start if u can let that go...then work on the morphine...then the benzo...u need to really talk to ur md....u have alot of issues here..but all r do-able..ur benzo dose is low in realitey....morphine is not a big drug of abuse/unless used iv/ so i am thinking u may be able to taper off fairly easily...do u have any support?   keep posting

Thanks for the information about detoxing off of morphine.  Yes i can talk to my doctor, I'm still scared about going through the detox.  I have been diabled for 8 yrs now .  I have 11 fractured verterbre, osterpersis, and a DVT in my left leg.  My doctor says it's the worst spine he has seen in a man my age.  What is this stuff called chondline?  I take most of these pills at night.  I also have had sleep apena for many years.  I have been in therphy for years also.  So you think my best would be to start with the morphine and oxycodone.   thanks craig

Clondine is a medicine that was first designed to lower blood prerssure however it was also discovered to be one of the best meds to detox with it will cut the wds greatly and is safe to use as low as your blood pressure is not too low.
In most detox clinics its the first line of defense against wds symptoms.
Normally once or twice daily of 2mcg NOT mg will do the trick.
Peace

I've been reading about alot of you wanting or having to detox off morphine and more. I have battled addiction to pain meds for years. I have more than legitimate medical need and a history and nightmare back surgerys to back me up. However, with each passing symptom I have become more in pain and prescribed more and more meds till I am now having to take morphine 480mg a day, oxycodone, muscles relaxers and some other meds to help me cope with my pain. There was a night i was low on my meds and my visit was the next day, so i had 180mg of morphine to get me by for 24 hrs and with taking my oxycodone and other meds I was soooo sick, stomach nauseua, body aches, RLS, cold sweats and by day break i had a migraine i thought was going to kill me, I just could not fuction normal at all!....  What I'm trying to get at is I dont see how anyone could go COLD TURKEY when I could barely survive one night/ day with a low dose. I dont know if everyone responds differently but with my experiences with detoxing off other meds everyone seems to experience about the same symptoms.

I HAD to take a med called suboxone to help me detox off of Lorecets 230 mg a day habit. I dont know if that med helps with all opiate detox, but u r not able to take any other pain med cause it blocks the receptors in your brain that graves the drug. So, that makes its hard for people like myself who have to have some pain meds to survive their personal hell of pain everyday.

I guess I would just like some feed back on the morphine detox experience I had compared to others.
Also, let anyone interested and looking for a less miseriable detox to look up the drug suboxone and it will also lead you to other drugs that do make a huge difference.

First off, welcome to the forum! I will try and take a shot answering your questions. First off, it doesn't really matter what narcotic pain med we take, the withdrawals are pretty much the same. It does make a difference on the a type we take as some are stronger than others. The amount will also make a difference also. If someone is taking 200mg of vicodin a day there withdrawals will probably be just as bad as someone that is taking 100mgs of morphine a day. I does depend on the person to though as everyone reacts to things differently. I've been through withdrawals quite a few times from meds such as morphine, oxycontin, oxycodone, and vicodin. The withdrawals were always pretty much the same because if I was taking vicodin I would take more of those than if I was had oxy. Some people are able to taper but most addicts are not able to. We are addicts for a reason and we cannot control our use. If the pills are there, we will take them.
Suboxone can be a can be a good way to help aide someone in getting and staying clean. They thing about suboxone is that it is also an opiate, a very strong one in fact, and the withdrawals from it can sometimes be worse than other full agonist opiates. It has to be tapered very slowly but that goes back to an addict being able to taper. Even though sub doesn't give the high like other opiates it can still be tough to taper. Some say that sub withdrawals are nowhere near as bad as other opiates but some say they are much worse. Sub is not a magical pill. In order for suboxone to work successfully one must also attend aftercare. It gives an addict a chance to work on their addictive behaviors and get their life back on track. Some see it as just swapping addictions. I myself do not agree with that statement but I do realize that they will have to withdraw from suboxone eventually. If someone is able to go cold turkey off of their drug of choice, they should. But some need more help and suboxone can be a great alternative.
Many go cold turkey all the time. I was went cold turkey off of over 400mgs of oxycontin and although it wasn't easy I made it through as do many others. The worst of it only lasts around 5 days or so.
I hope this answered some of your questions. If not, feel free to ask more. Are you currently on suboxone or are you taking morphine? Did you come to an addiction forum looking for support to get and stay clean? I too suffer from chronic pain and have had back surgeries and once I stopped using pain meds my pain is easier to deal with. When taking opiates our brain tricks us into thinking we have more pain so we will give it what it wants, an opiate.
