you can "just stop" ppl do it everyday! it takes the desire to be free from the addiction, which is the beginning of the process, first you must push through 14 days, at the amount you are taking i believe you will feel 100% better by the 7th full day of not putting any opiates in your system, , after the next 7 you will be well on your way, but you might find that is when it gets harder because you will feel so good you will want to reward yourself, that is when you need to change the way you think.
but first do whatever it takes to get thru acute w/d and feel not pill sick. if you don't now your tolerance will grow and it will be harder later, no one is unique when it comes to addiction, its a very cunning, baffling disease, and will trick you into justifying use for ever if you allow it.It's all a process let it happen, accept what changes (good and bad ) happen in the first days of sickness and then the freedom and sense of accomplishment and true peace ,hapiness that comes after. keep posting we are all here to support you!

M,i honestly think your withdrawlas may not be as bad as you may think. probally the bathroom issue will be a concern ,but get some immodium and get some bananas for restless arms and legs. drink plenty of Gatorade, take vitamins and just put your mind on something else it really helps to occupy your mind with other activities.sleep will be an issue I here melatonin is good. I think you will do good everyone is scared of w/d,s but I honestly think you,ll get thru them easier than what you may imagine.take it hour by hour or day by day you can succeed .I found the biggest step eas just making up my mind I was going to do this. good luck!!  peace out!!!!!!!!!!

So I started cutting back on Tuesday I only took 1 and a 1/2 total and I was fine then Wednesday I did the same 1 and 1/2 total (3 halves throughout the day) and then I couldn't sleep at all Wednesday night I had cold sweats and just felt sick. So took a sleeping aid did the same Thursday and now today I feel like ****. My stomach hurts and I am having hot flashes. So far I have only took 1/2 today but I feel the strong urge to take another. I want to stop cold turkey and I get it that everyone says where there is a Will there is a Way. Seeing that my sons name is Will, that is my saying all the time in everything we do!!  But I honestly can not get off work. I have only been here 3 months and have no vacation or anything. I can maybe get one day off for funeral but that is it. I know it seems I am just making excuses but I don't know what else to do. So that is why I just tried this weaning off. And also with new job comes new insurance that my doctor don't take so I don't even have doctor to prescribe me with sleeping pills or valium like in that  Thomas recipe it says to get something like that to help. I am just scared of how bad the withdraw symptom will be. I have been on either Vic 750 or perc 5's 3 or 4 a day. ?? I know everyone is different but can anyone relate to that amount and tell me what they went through?

Hi and welcome! If you can get 3 days off and attach it to a weekend, that should be enough time to get back on your feet since your dose is not that high. I subscribe to the rip the bandage off technique! Quit and get it over with. Tapering at this point will just prolong the agony. Stock up on supplies, make arrangements for work and kids and just do it! Make plans for them to go visit a friend one night, maybe family if possible, outings for a few hours. You will be able to function when you have to. Plan on letting the house and perfect meals etc go for a week and hang out and watch movies with them.  Where there's a will theres a way. Question is, how strong is the will?

You know, this recovery stuff is interesting: it forces us to step outside of our comfort zone and do all this crap we don't wanna do or don't think we can do. Now is the time to think outside the box. Firstly, I can tell you adore your kids and really wanna go back to being a clean mommy. It may not be comfortable, but ask a friend, acquaintance, babysitting service, ex-husband?,family member to watch your kids. Or even have someone come over and deal w/ the kids so you don't have to.

I don't know what kind of work you do but I bet you anything you can get a week off. Get a dr's note? Tell em a family member died? Anything. You are not trying to get time to go to Aruba, here. You are trying to not kill yourself w/ pills. That's why I say do whatever you have to do to get this covered. It's the most important thing you'll ever do. And you want your kids to be proud of you later in life right? They certainly want and need you to be here!

Also, walk into an AA or NA meeting and share this. You can do that today. You will get help up the wazoo.

Oh, and for me (and I think most of us), we can't taper because we have no control (if we did, we woudn't be be addicts, rt?) Just rip that band-aid off and get it over with. A week of your life is nothing in the scheme of things. That's just my opinion. I had to cold turkey it. Trust me, everyone on here will help you if you post!!!

That is very true good advice. I need to stop, and want to stop. So you think just stopping cold turkey is he best? The problem with that is, I work and have kids. I can probably get 3 days off in a row but not 5 at least not any time soon.  but I don't have any one for kids really. I have heard that if I take 3 or 4 now I should just gradually stop. Like only take 2 or 3 for week then go down every week. If I do that wont i then feel just moderate withdrawls but for a way longer time?

Hi, not to make you feel "unspecial" but your story is IDENTICAL to mine: I never, ever was addicted to anything until I was prescribed pain meds. I didn't even know what they were!  Trust me, all of us have been where you are.

I'll just echo the above advice. Have someone take care of your little ones for 5 days maybe a week (tell em you have the flu, whatever!), you really have to focus on healing during detox. Please don't try to be a hero, just ask for help. Then take the leap. It's uncomfortable sure, it *****. But then it's over. You can post on here constantly and arm yourself w/ stuff you will need (immodium, juices etc., check out the Thomas recipe)

You will be fine. You won't think you will be, but you will. Every single one us And I mean every one of us was/is terrified of detox: that's why we've all used much longer than we wanted to right?

You can do this. Just start, that's all you have to do. One minute at a time.

It's great that you recognize that you need and want to quit.  Your story is very familiar to a lot of us that started the same way you did.  There are several things you will need to do in order to successfully quit. The good news is that you are not taking an extremely high daily dose.  However, you have been taking them for a long time.  If you quit cold turkey, you can expect to have some moderate flu like symptoms for about a week. Then you should start feeling better each day.  You will need to make sure that you cut any and all sources for pills. This is critical to help ensure that you can't relapse in a weak moment. Once you get through the physical detox process, you should get some kind of aftercare like meetings, church group, counseling, therapy, etc.  As far as the physical withdrawal, there are things you can do to help ease the symptoms. Read the Thomas Recipe, the link is at the bottom of the page. It contains some really good information on how to help with the physical symptoms.  Please continue to post here with any questions, or if you need support.  You will find lots of encouragement and advice here. You can do this! I wish you all the best.

Hey, you need to say no more and stop buying them. You aren't taking to many at the moment and I will tell you your daily amounts will only rise until you are stuck in the hole most on here found themselves in. If you have tried already and failed, you could buy enough for a while and do daily drops until you are taking only small amounts then take the plunge. You shouldn't have horrendous withdrawals so try not to fear it to much, surrender to the inevitable sooner rather than later my friend. You have 3 lovely children and the option of surgery so everything is possible for you.

I wish you nothing but the best my friend,  hope you find the strength needed, ;)

I am 32 I have 3 kids. I have never been addicted to anything in my life. Not caffeine not nicotine  not alcohol nothing. I had some bad back pain about 5 years ago and the doctor said I had 2 bad disc and sent me to chiropractor. That went on for year then I went back bc I could barely walk and he gave me vicoden and flexural. So I took the vics less than prescribed started with one pill a day. That lasted for a while then went up to two a day, now I am up to atleast 3 a day. My doctor no longer will give them to me. He said I need surgery but I can not afford that. So I get them other ways. I want and need to stop, but every time I try, I fail. I do not want to be like this. I am a good mother and I do not want to let me kids down in any way. So I have got to figure things out now!

Hello and welcome. I am on day 48 free from Pain pills after approx 5 years of use. I quit cold turkey. You should consult your physician about any concerns you have since he knows your medical history. You will find lots of support here. Its about a 5 day process. Depending on your length of use and dosage determines a lot. I didn't start to feel close to normal til about day 20, and much better at day 30. It gets better everyday, not being chained to a little bottle of pills. You can do it. If you need anything there is a lot of support here. Good Luck!!
