Detoxing off very high oxycodone dosages

I am new to this site and am getting ready to detox at home off of 20- 30mgs of oxycodone IR a day. Thats 600 mgs a day for the past two years. My legs hurt so bad when i tried to detox before and cant sleep. I have had three heart attacks, been in a 5 day coma, had renal failure and pneumonia so bad i had to be hooked up to life support, the breathing machines etc., just in the past year!. Can anyone give me advice on getting through detoxing at home? I get so depressed when i try to get off pain meds. Help please!

Johnny everyone seems calm an I' going crazy here with your post.Do you not have any insurance? They usually cover,I think, that will help with this. After all you have had medically, you need professional helo ti di this. Your body could go into complete failure. Kidneys shut down ,can't breathe so may things can happen. Please if nothing else, consult your Doc beforeyou try this. Get a 2 opinion. Good luck Sheba

Hi Johnny,
Welcome to the forum.  I just want to let you know you are not alone.  I am detoxing off of very high doses of pain oxycodone, about 240 mg a day (and I am also on very high doses of fentanyl patches as well).  Like you, i have severe health problems and true pain management issues that need to be addressed.  After you talk yo your doctor about a tapering plan, I would be happy to support you.  I know sometimes it helps to talk to others going through a similar situation.  Good luck!

I have quit CT from a high Oxycodone habit and from an IV Dilaudid-Roxicodone habit. Before adding Dilaudid to the Roxi, I injected 7-8, 15mg. tabs to start and redosed several times a day. Taking Oxycodone orally or intranasally, had no effect on me.
When I quit the Oxycodone without the Dilaudid, I spent 4-5 days in bed with some rough physical WD's but the psychological WD's were even worse than the IV Dilaudid WD's. The Dilaudid was much worse physically.
My OXY WD's...Insomnia, restlessness, fatigue, diarrhea, sweats, extreme moodiness, extreme depression and suicidal thoughts. The bad WD's lasted about 5 days followed by a month of cravings and general fatigue.

If you want to do it own your own, I suggest tapering down to less than 100mg a day. If you can change to Hydrocodone after tapering the Oxy, it would be easier to stop.

Good luck and message me if you need any advice

Im sorry your struggling. My brother is going through the exact same thing and im scared for him because I love him so much and I understand exactly what he is going through. No one deserves a drug habit and its not fair. You sound keen, determined and serious you want a new drug free life. You have made it through so many serious health problems and still come out on top. So this is another obsticle you know your going to conquer. You make sure the doctors show you nothing but compassion and understanding, thats what you deserve to be treated like from everyone.  You are going to make it like some of us as long as you never give up. Its no walk in the park, but its going to show you just how much can be thrown at you, and that you will defeat anything that comes your way. Yes the mental part is horrible, but you dont have to do it alone, making it bearable, as long as you keep talking to people and always keep the faith. Good luck.

Congratulations on the decision you've made to become free from the bondage of opiates!! Heed the advice above and get medical help. You'll get an expert course to follow. You only want to go through this once, so enlisting all the best help you can get is the best route to take. Detox is an event but remaining clean is a gradual process we learn as we begin to live life in a new way. It's all in your grasp. Take this whole thing one day at a time and one step at a time. Ain't going to happen overnight. All it requires today is the willingness that you're displaying right now. So you've just made a huge step towards finally getting off the stuff! We're here to support you as you do this.

Welcome to the forum!  GREAT idea to get off the oxy's!

Once you get specific advise and help from your doctor so you can w/draw safely....be sure to post your symptoms...like the heavy legs, etc. and we'll all rally around and help you.  We all have used different methods...and there are lots of similarities in how we feel gettin off opiates....you'll get lots of support and guidance.  It simply wouldn't be prudent or safe for you to w/draw at home alone without the help of a medical professional.

Look forward to hearing from you again....and Merry Christmas!

Congrats on your decision to live free of opiates. It's a wonderful choice! However, I think it is VERY important that you seek medical help for detox with your medical history. Being that you've had such serious health events just in the last year, it would be wrong for anyone but a medical professional to advise you in such actions.
Please don't let that deter you from getting clean though. Surrender to a doctors plan and it IS possible to succeed.
Best wishes and Merry Christmas to you!

Hi Johnny, and welcome to the forum. This is a wonderful place for advice and support. Congrats on your decision to quit the Oxy. I, like you, was taking a high dose of Oxy per day. Although honestly, not half of what you are taking. Because you are on such a high daily dose, and because of your recent health issues, I would strongly recommend talking to a doctor and getting their help. I don't think I would recommend going the cold turkey route, given your health issues. Can you seek a doctors help? They could help you with a taper plan. Please consider that!

Take care, I wish you the very best. Please keep posting with any questions you have, and if you would like some support. Hopefully, others will weigh in with some additional advice. Please be patient, as it's Christmas, and many of our members are away from the forum. Please let us know how you are progressing!
